Trump owns the agencies, the national guard, the military and supreme court. All these parts of the power structure have been conditioned to do as he says. And we've already seen how he uses them illegally, even openly with ICE.
Trump doesn't give a shit about the law, he will make some insane excuse and call martial law.
Trump has not been seriously resisted yet, how can you claim that Trump or Vance taking power is not an option?
Well for one thing, elections are held by the states.
So when the Red States comply and don't have midterms Republicans don't lose any seats.
That's the even more neat part: their terms don't have an auto-renew.
And criminals aren't allowed on the ballot for presidential elections.
And the president can't just start a war and invade another country without Congressional approval.
They don't give a shit about the rules in place and will continue to ignore them because there continues to be zero consequences for doing so.
Trump will sign an executive order saying they continue to hold their seats until an election can be held (which of course it can't).
The federal government is above the states, if it's federally declared illegal federal police can arrest anyone participating and planning to hold the election anyway. Just like FBI could arrest people for Cannabis even when a state had legalized it.
So he's going to arrest 60,000,000-170,000,000 Americans in one day?
Nah.
He can either arrest his opponent or the administration can just ignore the results of whatever fractured election takes place.
He can ignore the results or arrest anyone but that just makes him a guy occupying the white house who is no longer the president. They could try their hand at a civil war (if the guns stay in line) but there's no mechanic available to modify the constitution and give them legitimacy. At best they could depose state governments and put in their own people. But anybody with an army can claim the USA by that method.
I didn't know Congress needed the president's permission to exist
He wouldn't need to. The ensuing chaos would be enough to declare martial law
Which is why the SC ruled in his favor and there are currently Marines and National Guard enforcing state laws in LA and Chicago.
Wasn’t he just ruled against and had to remove them all?
ding ding ding, there are no troops in those cities!
Yes, except in DC and places where it was nominally deployed by the governor
