I almost always hate his films because he plays Jack Black. But I actually really, really liked his performance in Bernie. It's a great film based on actual events and absolutely worth going in blind. He plays a different role to his usual fare and made me wonder if he would go on to do more interesting stuff, but then nobody watched it and he went back to the same shit he always does.

Isn’t it a similar thing for Adam Sandler? He’ll do an uncut gems every decade, but his go to movies are just to make money and hang out with his friends.

I remember going to see Punch Drunk Love, and the utter confusion on the faces of people coming out of the earlier showing. They had clearly gone to see an Adam Sandler movie, not a PT Anderson movie.
