"Liberal Democracy" needs replacing with "dictatorship of the bourgeoisie"
"Chinese-style democracy" needs replacing with "dictatorship of the proletariat"
"Democratic values" needs replacing with "bourgeois values"
"post-materialist values" means "individualist"
"Democratic freedoms" means "freedom of capital"

I can't tell if the english translators/writers at SCMP have no idea what these phrases properly mean or if they're very aware and being savvy about what most of their readers would understand.
SCMP is a liberal outlet based in HK that became nominally pro-China after Alibaba bought it. My guess is they know exactly what they're saying.
Fun trivia fact, Murdoch used to own it.
