They also literally start off killing almost a billion people, including most of the top leadership of the US government. The person who addressed Carol on the TV was the secretary of agriculture because everyone above him in the line of succession was dead.
This person also opens up their conversation apologising for all the dead people and telling her to stay in doors as they clean up the corpses.

I think that would be an interesting revelation, but it could also have been like the president's airplane was about to land when everybody got plurbed and the plane crashed. Based on what was shown, I think the deaths were supposed to look accidental, like car crashes, plane crashes, head injuries, etc.

Another salient thing is that a lot of the people just die from getting the virus. I am not saying they assassinated the president.

Didn't Carol's partner die of getting the virus, too?

I thought she died of head trauma from when she fell on the concrete

They tell you that she died from the joining, highlight that it sometimes kill people and have a thing about the risks involved and you think the one person we see die from it just coincidentally died from falling down, something we also see a bunch of other people do who then join the hivemind? Sure that's possible, but it would seem to make the whole thing much less relevant.

I think searching for where the Hive is actively lying isn't nearly as interesting as searching for where the Hive omits the truth. I think we as an audience are meant to accept the 'rules' as outlined so far, that being that the Hive genuienly does not want to kill and makes its decisions based around this limiting factor of their behavior.

Basically, I think the Hive is telling the truth when they imply all the deaths during the initial joining really were from falls, crashes or other accidents that occur when people suddenly drop into a seizure.

If the Hive can commit mass murder it makes their dynamic with the immune way less interesting, because it feels like killing Carol and everyone else is way less hassle.

They arent committing mass murder by stabbing people. They are disregarding the risks involved in the spread of the virus. Just as they are disregarding the incidental damage of redirecting all human production to beaming a message into space and keeping a handful of "survivors" content, or the animals who die from not being fed, etc.
They don't want anyone dead. They don't want to kill people. They just did so as a direct result of something else (The propagation of the virus) being much more important.

That's not what they say.

because it feels like killing Carol and everyone else is way less hassle.

Killing Carol would be contrary to their goal of universal infection. Disregarding the risks involved in the spread of the virus doesn't.

I wouldn't say they disregard the risks. The Hive did spend the better part of a year attempting to spread without harming anyone. The mass global event occurred out of self-defense, as they put it. One of the more interesting elements of the show is the rigid imperatives the Hive operates under, and how they conflict.

There might be a hierarchy of priorities & preservation of specifically human life might be lower than their others, but their behaviors show it's undoubtedly a priority for them.

They show what happened idk what you're talking about. She seized and fell down. The guy in the truck seized and ran off the road into another car. Some people stay standing up. Some people in the bar and hospital also fell down. The "virus" itself doesn't kill people. Helen even smiled before dying because she completed joining but the head trauma was too much.

People died during the joining because they had to rush it due to being discovered. Their strategy was to isolate people and have them in a safe place before initiating the joining. Something, we're not told exactly, went wrong and they had to speed it up. That's when they did the chemtrails and infected everyone at once. People were driving, operating heavy equipment, in the bathroom at home, etc so when it happened they seized and got hurt. Think of the guy you see on the hoist when Carol is walking in town.

We can't harm or kill anyone, but we have a biological imperitive to spread our virus which kills 10% of people it infects

[–] ConcreteHalloween@hexbear.net 14 points 5 days ago

I can sort of understand how that logic makes sense from an alien virus' perspective. Like, us spreading is just part of nature, but once the spreading is complete we can't consciously do harm to any other lifeforms.

It's like some rules of robotics shit where they otherwise don't interfere but their prime directive is they gotta be spreadin' that shit, other rules are lower than that
