Hi everybody!
I've been having a craving to watch Hackers (1995) again which, ended up becoming a plan between @Carcharodonna@hexbear.net and I to screen it along with Interstella 5555 on the tracha channel on blorptube. We're planning on starting with Interstella 5555 at 6PM UTC (1PM EST), though I'll be in the channel earlier streaming some episodes of the extremely (and apparently unintentionally) trans-coded My Life as a Teenage Robot.
Hackers (1995): This movie was such an experience to watch for the first time and I am always up for re-watching it. It feels very queer-coded, has a wonderful soundtrack and visuals, but it does have some of the rougher edges common in the 90s (see content warnings below).
Content warnings for Hackers (mild spoilers):
- Sexualization of high schoolers: the protagonists are high school seniors and their high school along with a party are the settings for several scenes where their classmates are sexualized for the camera. It's not as bad as I remember a lot of 90s movies being, but it was still creepy to see. They also do the whole adult actors playing adolescents thing.
- Disrespect and sexualization of queer identities: Drag is part of the movie, however they do unfortunately play a prank by advertising the subject of the prank in the personals section to get attention from "transvestites" (outdated term for crossdressers, drag artists, and trans people alike) where the prank is that the subhject is a married cishet guy why is disgusted by the attention. Again, nowhere near as bad as many other 90s movies, but it did still suck to see.
- Flashing lights
Interstella 5555 (2003): An animated musical featuring music by Daft Punk, I haven't seen it yet but have wanted to since I first listened to Daft Punk nearly 2 decades ago.

Sad I missed Interstella, seeing it in theaters was a great experience and I'll take any opportunity to watch it again
Oh man. Imagine getting high with mates and watching interstella 5555 on the big screen... Sounds incredible.
I went blazed off shrooms and MDMA, 10/10 trip
Nice!
I think we're gonna try making this a regular thing. With more warning next time too. I know some others would've wanted to attend too. Definitely gonna re-show both and also try to see what others suggest for queer-coded cinema nights. Maybe eventually get some regular programming with my life as a teenage robot and other shows if people have suggestions.
