To return the Nation to normalcy and prosperity in the midst of a post-World War I economic recession. President Harding cut Taxes, raised Tariffs, and restricted Immigration. His Administration also radically cut Federal spending, created the Veterans' Bureau, and hosted the Washington Naval Conference, which helped establish U.S. parity with the British Navy for the first time. He died suddenly in 1923.
