Here’s a longer version that gives a little additional context to the quote:

“A lot of the challenge is with younger people. More than 50 percent of young people in America get their news from social media. So just pause on that for a second. They are seeing short-form videos, some of them totally made up, some of them not at all representing what they claim to be showing, and that’s where they get their information.”

Because listening to talking heads regurgitating corporate propaganda is so much better, right?

[–] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 15 points 4 months ago

Social media is also corporate propaganda.

[–] frunch@lemmy.world 6 points 4 months ago

Right?! Getting news from tiktok is just the next evolutionary step from 24 hour news channels. They're just pissed that they're getting out-gamed in a realm where they used to reign effortlessly.

Oh, somebody who voted for war with Iraq because she thought they had WMDs is worried about other people getting faulty information on the mideast? That's cute

"Do as I say, not as I do"

This does not make her look any better, especially when the deaths as reported by legacy news are undeniable. They literally require cult-like levels of self delusion to think killing thousands of kids and leveling a city isn't objectionable.

The true cowardice is that they're doing genocide denial instead of admitting that "the 2 million Gazans isn't enough." The only way you think this is acceptable is if you think Israel doesn't just deserve a homeland, but ethnostate. That the Palestinians are just like the native Americans, "in the way of destiny."

Did somebody tell her how Biden (and traditional outlets) fell for the "decapitated babys on october 7th hoax"?

I think the problem is more that 80% of older Americans get their news from Fox, as well as the fact that 95% of Americans think everything can be dumbed down into a 30 second video and their opinion after watching it carries the same weight as someone who spent a lifetime studying the issue.

And yes Hillary always has been a pretty terrible person. But Trump is so so so much worse.

How many decades of study does it take to come to the conclusion that 'Israel was right to detonate pager-bombs' and not deserve shit for it?

That is to say not every greybeard academic is immune to shit takes.

I'm sure some videos are staged or focus on the worst tragedies in the region, but I have yet to see any footage that paints Israel in a positive light. So it's either a genocide in real-time or they're making existence for all in Gaza so miserable that Hamas surrenders. Neither action is tolerable.
