Idk, super common over western Europe. I do think electric bidet attachments to toilets are a wonderful invention, though.
Yeah I had a family member who had one when I was growing up. It never made a lot of sense to me then either. The only advantage over a toilet one is that it can double as a secondary sink - my relatives used it to clean the dogs feet amongst other things.
Why have a gold plated old timey bidet though
