Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed.

All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body.

If you are citing a Twitter post as news, please include not just the twitter.com URL but also Xcancel.com (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance, such as Libredirect or archive them as you would any other reactionary source (archive.today, web.archive.org, ghostarchive.org). Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed.

Mass-tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken Markov chain bot will result in a comm ban.

Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.

Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned.

Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society.

Man who's never worked an honest day in his entire life tells people who do honest work to get back to work.

The most "work" Trump has ever done is filling one McDonald's order for a photo op.

It's somewhat high paying. The median salary is $70/hr or $150M/yr

Goes to show how fucked everything is where a $70/hr job still can't afford the cost of living?

We need to shut down the bay area until we figure out what's going on

They can definitely afford cost of living, maybe it was inexperienced controllers who were complaining about their salary that I remember. But from the statistics I'm seeing even the entry level controllers make okay money these days.

makes you wonder what life is if you need to make 4x what you are to have one

Odd I remember seeing posts from controller making much less but you're right. Google says new inexperienced controllers make like $46k but I can't find data to back that up.

It's a pretty complicated scale with a lot of bonuses. An average controller probably makes ~40% of their income from overtime and bonuses, so that 46k is probably base income. The role and location also matters a lot. KLGA or KATL tower is going to make a lot more than KGCC ramp.

Don't they also have an earlier mandatory retirement age than most other jobs?

Yes, 56 unless you are an exceptionally talented controller, in which case you can work till 61. You also need 20/20 (correctable) vision, can't wear reading glasses, and can't have had a psychiatric condition at any point in your life.

What does the mm/ of mm/yr mean in this context?

[–] gay_king_prince_charles@hexbear.net 7 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (2 children)

M means thousand and MM means thousand thousand (million). MM was a typo.

M means thousands in which system??

Edit: Oh roman.
