Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

My local gay bar posted on Facebook about a massive increase in harassment, as well as a physical assault on a patron.

Stochastic terrorism.

A trans woman was attacked in Washington last week. People on Facebook are mask off, saying it was deserved.

Is this going to explode into an orgy of violence and then finally die down? Will something bad enough happy than people will be shamed back into calling evil, evil?

There were two separate shootings at homeless camps last week. I barely saw coverage of it.

I feel so much pressure and fear that I can’t think. I don’t understand why people are filled with so much hate. It can’t feel good, can it?

We have our Pride in October because of the summer heat, the board of my organization isn't worried about booth setup or swag or elevator speeches. They primarily want a map showing every possible exit scenario depending on where a shooter might begin. We are going forward with the expectation that Prides will be more violent. And that breaks my heart.

I mean the worst thing you can do is not do it, because that's what they want...

[–] BanMe@lemmy.world 26 points 5 months ago

Exactly, we're steeling ourselves but we're gonna be there come hell or high water. I'm reminding my guys that the first Pride was a riot and the next 20 were protests.

Thats... Just fucking devastating.

I hate this. I hate this so much.

If you're in an area where open carry is allowed, it may be worth seeing if there is a JBGC nearby that might be open to helping provide security

It'll take multiple occurrences of a cisgender person being misgendered and shot to death over it for anything to happen and even then it'll be on the "thoughts and prayers" level of effort as it is with every other shooting that happens near daily here

When I’ve shared articles about cis women being accused of being trans in bathrooms/harassed, the response is always “this wouldn’t have happened if trans women stayed out of women’s bathrooms to begin with.”

They just seem to want to hate.

[–] Joeffect@lemmy.world 14 points 5 months ago

They are told to hate, so they do... and if you're looking for something your going to find it

It's sad to say, but if you are trans or even gay, you need to start executing your escape plan if you have one. If you dont have a plan, you need to start making one, fast. This isn't going to blow over any time soon. Help each other out where you can - there are plenty that will struggle to find a way out.

Much easier said than done. Most countries only let you immigrate if you have some marketable skill, or lots of money, and nobody is accepting asylum cases from the US. Most of us are stuck here.

I saw this posted today: https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/trump-transgender-laws-asylum-persecution-canada-b2832107.html

Hopefully countries will consider accepting asylum seekers from the US.

As part of the trans community in Canada it's devastating watching our American kinfolk suffer. Because of the Safe Third Country Agreement American citizens cannot claim refugee status here. I have been writing to every politician I can to try and punch out an exception. The minute I can I am opening up my home to as many folk as I can.

‘Now is not the time to talk about gun control.’

It breaks my heart to read a sane, reasonable person being in the US right now. Hold tight, I hope you survive this

[–] Joeffect@lemmy.world 15 points 5 months ago

I mean, most of the people being attacked are the sane ones... so there's that

[–] FaceDeer@fedia.io 9 points 5 months ago

I think it's good that there still are some.
