After the suspected shooter has been detained, the FBI held a press conference to report on the case and announce the next steps going forward. Spoiler: we, as leftists, are fucked.

Key points:

  • The shooter is Tyler Robinson of Utah.
  • His friend reported him to the FBI.
  • Tyler's Discord messages have been used as evidence, as provided by his roommate.
  • ~~Robinson has been reported to be getting increasingly political, and during dinner one day, he spoke about how Kirk was "full of hate".~~ UPDATE 4: Tyler did not say that.
  • The casings do not contain any trans references. But they do have anti-fascist rhetoric (bella ciao and "notices bulges OwO" included) and symbols engraved in them.
  • Tyler was taken into custody on September 11th, 10 PM local time.
  • The investigation is still ongoing.
  • One guy cried while speaking.
  • Thousands of more leads of potential accomplices are being followed.
  • No other arrests are known
  • Tyler drove to campus on a car.
  • It's not known if Tyler is mentally ill.
  • The charging documents will be filed 3 days from now (September 16), then a preliminary hearing will take place.

(Added by LangleyDominos)

  • Patel awkwardly trying to signal the Norse viking larp shit. "Charlie, I'll see you in Valhalla"
  • Utah Governor Cox told everyone to log off and stop consuming rage bait, called social media a cancer, and that everyone should "touch grass" (his actual words).

People are going to believe what they want to believe about his identity regardless of what is true tbh

i swear the play now is to offer up every possible option so everyone can come to their own conclusion and its just another thing to create a wedge

list of things ive heard so far

  • groyper
  • dsa guy
  • apolitical guy
  • liberal who doesn't know whats going on but is really angry
  • republican with a slightly different idea of what fascism means to them
  • israeli sniper
  • bored hunter
  • trans person

pick your favorite brainworm and just go to town on facebook you cant be wrong

just to clarify after reading the list, im not suggesting trans people have brain worms im saying if you’re already jumping to conclusions you are the one with brain worms

To further illustrate my point; everyone on planet earth assumes it was a political killing which is probably true but without a lick of evidence it could be a guy Kirk cut off in traffic or some shit.

this is the average american if you put in the effort to dig, not the specifics but the general incoherence and baffling twists

Yeah the conspiracies are kinda funny. Half of the hexbear infighting is because us Americans like to randomly lib out (or occasionally just support something fascist like that french foreign legion post I remember seeing) and we're supposed to be larping as principled leftists. When I talk to others IRL the politics make far less sense.

And get hundreds/thousands of upvotes making your favorite accusation on the social media platform of your choosing! Someone will see that your comment has to be true, why else would it get that many likes?

God this is such a dumb world

You know what? I'm gonna go with an unpopular opinion here. Generally unhinged guy with a dad and granddad who hunt and guns in several homes he spends time in, Charlie pissed him off personally over something stupid like cutting him off in traffic, and he snapped.

I'm not going to engage in the arguments on Facebook and the like, but I know I could, and I don't live in the US, so this kind of thing is a lot more detached from reality for me than it is for you guys, but... the more people getting whipped up about this, the more reactionary shit the US gov can then direct at the left or DSA types. I'm not going to participate in that when I don't have to deal with the consequences.

My mom was calling the shooter an "evil democrat" in my texts within hours of the assassination

[–] Hohsia@hexbear.net 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I actually saw a TikTok comment with like 100K likes that said “nail in the coffin for democrats”

I truly don’t know how to comment on this era. At this point in time, there is no “real life” and “online”

If you think about it, it is really fucking wild that the entirety of the United States knows about (and is pledging support to) a podcaster who was a no name to 80% of the public just 3 years ago. I’m truly losing my mind! Truth no longer matters and there’s nothing we can do about it

The disassociation from reality is the hardest part for me, it's something I've really been struggling with more and more lately. The fact that humans, or at least a sizeable enough percentage of them, care more about feeling like they're right than actually trying to find out if they are, is making me genuinely misanthropic. As in, I'm feeling myself transition from "I don't really want to be around people but I want them to live as happily as possible" into "Humans deserve to suffer and I'm glad that things are getting worse for them".
