Welcome to c/news! We aim to foster a book-club type environment for discussion and critical analysis of the news. Our policy objectives are:

We ask community members to appreciate the uncertainty inherent in critical analysis of current events, the need to constantly learn, and take part in the community with humility. None of us are the One True Leftist, not even you, the reader.

Newcomm and Newsmega Rules:

The Hexbear Code of Conduct and Terms of Service apply here.

  1. Link titles: Please use informative link titles. Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed.

  2. Content warnings: Posts on the newscomm and top-level replies on the newsmega should use content warnings appropriately. Please be thoughtful about wording and triggers when describing awful things in post titles.

  3. Fake news: No fake news posts ever, including April 1st. Deliberate fake news posting is a bannable offense. If you mistakenly post fake news the mod team may ask you to delete/modify the post or we may delete it ourselves.

  4. Link sources: All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. If you are citing a Twitter post as news, please include the Xcancel.com (or another Nitter instance) or at least strip out identifier information from the twitter link. There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance, such as Libredirect or archive them as you would any other reactionary source.

  5. Archive sites: We highly encourage use of non-paywalled archive sites (i.e. archive.is, web.archive.org, ghostarchive.org) so that links are widely accessible to the community and so that reactionary sources don’t derive data/ad revenue from Hexbear users. If you see a link without an archive link, please archive it yourself and add it to the thread, ask the OP to fix it, or report to mods. Including text of articles in threads is welcome.

  6. Low effort material: Avoid memes/jokes/shitposts in newscomm posts and top-level replies to the newsmega. This kind of content is OK in post replies and in newsmega sub-threads. We encourage the community to balance their contribution of low effort material with effort posts, links to real news/analysis, and meaningful engagement with material posted in the community.

  7. American politics: Discussion and effort posts on the (potential) material impacts of American electoral politics is welcome, but the never-ending circus of American Politics© Brought to You by Mountain Dew™ is not welcome. This refers to polling, pundit reactions, electoral horse races, rumors of who might run, etc.

  8. Electoralism: Please try to avoid struggle sessions about the value of voting/taking part in the electoral system in the West. c/electoralism is right over there.

  9. AI Slop: Don't post AI generated content. Posts about AI race/chip wars/data centers are fine.

It was obvious. He shots from the neck to a painful death instead of a headshot an instant death.

[–] sisatici@hexbear.net 59 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Headshot is less likely to kill him lol

[–] PolandIsAStateOfMind@lemmygrad.ml 37 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Shooter must have aimed for the face, no wonder he missed.

[–] ThermonuclearEgg@hexbear.net 4 points 6 months ago

I believe this is it. Slowly over the course of the coming months, the circumference of Kirk’s head will increase inch by inch until he becomes a literal human bobblehead. Or maybe it keeps growing until it eventually pops. Either way, it feels… appropriate.

[–] TankieTanuki@hexbear.net 18 points 6 months ago (5 children)

Did he really stay conscious long enough to feel pain?

[–] Justice@lemmygrad.ml 21 points 6 months ago (2 children)

Nah. You can see in the video (which is obviously incredibly graphic and I wouldn't recommend anyone watch) he immediately passes out. The shot effectively ripped open his carotid artery causing his head to dump blood and his heart to pump out all of his blood. He was passed out within one or two seconds. I'd suspect dead in under a minute due to no oxygen to the brain.

[–] SchillMenaker@hexbear.net 11 points 6 months ago (2 children)

Thank you for the correct terminology. I'm not a huge watch videos of people die even if they deserve it kind of guy but so many people are saying he was hit in the jugular and then clearly describing arterial spray.

Whatever screw is loose in my head that can't let this go was tightened ever so slightly by this post.

[–] Justice@lemmygrad.ml 9 points 6 months ago

I think people use jugular because it's a more familiar term in pop culture or just everyday usage. "Go for the jugular" is often used as "Go for the kill" when describing dog attacks and such.

But yeah it doesn't take a doctor or anything to see the incredible spraying of the blood and recognize arterial bleeding. From there just a bit of first aid knowledge tells you "bro's dead." Can't tourniquet off the head... he'd need a prepared surgeon next to him. Even under those perfect circumstances my understanding is such a wound is more than likely fatal.

Although I will say on a really morbid note or whatever. I found this video not all that disturbing in comparison to the perhaps hundreds of videos I've seen of Palestinians being murdered in every possible way. I'm not even going to detail further but people that have seen them probably know what I mean. It's like Kirk was still a human even as he was sitting there bleeding out. A whole body. Still a recognizable figure.

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 7 points 6 months ago (1 children)

it really gushed out. i regret watching it but also it's kinda funny how unreal it seems.

[–] SchillMenaker@hexbear.net 10 points 6 months ago

Yeah your heart is really strong and the carotid has to maintain a high volume to supply a 100% perfusion uptime to the most nutrient-hungry part of your body that also happens to be the only part that has to be pumped against gravity at all times.

If you've ever seen a cracked drain line vs a cracked supply line it makes sense that the descriptions of the wound couldn't be coming from the jugular.

[–] TankieTanuki@hexbear.net 4 points 6 months ago

That's my thinking too. I once passed out after donating less than a pint.

[–] GenderIsOpSec@hexbear.net 20 points 6 months ago (1 children)

realistically probably not, there was a lot of blood like 2 seconds after the shot sicko-wistful

[–] purpleworm@hexbear.net 13 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Also with how he was instantly posturing, it looks like it blasted through his brain stem/spine.

[–] PolandIsAStateOfMind@lemmygrad.ml 17 points 6 months ago

Most likely not, with this amount of blood he must have lost consciousness before shock passed.

[–] Wolfman86@hexbear.net 14 points 6 months ago

Well...hopefully.

[–] durduramayacaklar@lemmygrad.ml 10 points 6 months ago

I’m just speculating here. Video says that this is a professional job not like Trump’s assasination attempt. That’s why, I said this.

[–] tactical_trans_karen@hexbear.net 10 points 6 months ago (1 children)

No. A solid neck shot is just as fatal and "painless". This one in particular created an instant blackout due to complete blood pressure and flow loss. But the doubly fatal part was the spinal cord strike - you can see from the rictus posturing that the whole body was suddenly reacting to "no signal found". He wasn't conscious long enough to feel any pain, and any pain he could have felt at that point would have been from the chin up.

Yeah, the dude was immediately unconscious and probably died on the ride to the hospital if not on the spot. "He was taken to the hospital in critical condition" is just theatre. 95% of the conversation at the hospital was determining cause and time of death to put down on his death certificate.
