NRA sees an opportunity to gain opportunist liberal supporters who will jump on board with them as an anti-Trump thing without any significant loss of their existing supporters who don't support the org because of Trump. They supported the org before Trump because they sincerely support owning guns and they will continue to do so when Trump is gone.

They see only potential to gain by taking this position.
