All completely valid criticisms, especially over the creator.

it's the American settler-colonial brand of Christianity. Native Americans have dark skin because they're evil and if you're a good Mormon you literally become God in the afterlife.
Generally speaking they're even more socially conservative than the average American Christian, who are already pretty bad.

If im to be non-theological over the question, its because they make up a significant portion of the intelligence community for some odd reason

Federal jobs have to ask if you've ever smoked weed, and the FBI/CIA deny applications if you answer yes (I heard a rumor that early on, IT departments were severely understaffed because of it). That's part of the reason for the over-representation of Mormons.

The other part is that there's a prophecy that one day the US constitution will crumble, and the LDS church will step in and "save" the republic. So there's that. They even do this special... dispensation? I forget the internal term. But basically, an indulgence. For removed. They can break as much doctrine as they like and still go to the very top-tiered heaven that's reserved only for the best of the best because, by being removed, they're doing our Heavenly Father's work on earth.

Why wouldn't they just lie, im not sure prospective spies are known for their honesty

[–] Wheaties@hexbear.net 8 points 4 weeks ago

There's a certain amount of patriotic naivety that comes with applying to these things. For every shrewd cynic there's a dozen more dopes who just haven't considered that answering honestly in your Pentagon job interview might go poorly.

Assuming the filtered word is a synonym for spy?

I don't think I've ever seen anyone actually use it as a slur

[–] MLRL_Commie@hexbear.net 5 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Is this word also related to ghosts? Or am I on the wrong path here. I also have never seen it as a slur and only recently learned it in an article about American white supremacy.

[–] buckykat@hexbear.net 4 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Yeah, that's the one. Commonly used to refer to spies or ghosts, sometimes by analogy to ghosts to social constructs, also an obscure and archaic amerikkkan slur for Black people.

[–] MLRL_Commie@hexbear.net 5 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

I didn't know it was for spies, either. I thought it was just generally for any 3 letter agency people. The more you know

[–] buckykat@hexbear.net 8 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

I'm using spies and three letter agency people interchangeably.

They're an evil cult
