There are plenty of things politicians do to be diplomatic, this is just one of them.

Perform a religious prayer of a religion they don't adhere to?

This is not normal whatsoever.

[–] FireRetardant@lemmy.world 35 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Trump swears by the bible but doesn't adhere to it, how is this any different?

[–] geneva_convenience@lemmy.ml 16 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

He doesn't pretend to be Jewish.

It's common for Christian politicians to visit other religious sites such as mosques or synagogues. But actively performing a prayer is a completely different matter.

"Performing" a prayer?

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

[–] EisFrei@lemmy.world 10 points 2 weeks ago

It's performative for sure.

[–] cabillaud@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

Once again, nobody's pretending to be Jewish. Everyone who does this has to wear one. Gentiles included.

Sure but the question is not how the religious ritual is performed but why US presidents and their entourage are performing it when it's clearly not their religion.

You don't need to look for crap in every photo, this is just their stated policy

[–] geneva_convenience@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Why does it have to be different? Why can't both things be gross?

[–] onslaught545@lemmy.zip 15 points 2 weeks ago

Dude, that describes like 90% of Christianity.

[–] Wazowski@lemmy.world 11 points 2 weeks ago

There’s “normal” and there’s “politician normal”. Let’s also not forget that all this religious bullshit was started to make it easier for politicians to control people.

[–] ccunning@lemmy.world 21 points 2 weeks ago

Yeah this seems like one of the least weird things these professional weirdos have done…

[–] mrdown@lemmy.world 9 points 2 weeks ago

[–] Lembot_0004@discuss.online 6 points 2 weeks ago
