On this week this niche leftist forum was first launched (its was the 24th or 25th i think) Formed from the Chapotraphouse subreddit remnants that survived the reddit ban over the calls of violence against confederate slave owners, the first admins decided to use Lemmy as its base. Originally called Chapo.chat (ChaCha) Hexbear has grown into one of the biggest instances in the lemmyverse.
In this last 5 years hexbear has survived many diffent events from numerous struggle sessions, mod clique-users conflicts, wrecker incursions from other instances and sites, this image 
, a decent amount of fedidrama with other instances and the domain crisis, we still thrive with over 5 million comments and 375k posts.
I still continue my dictatorial rule over the general megathread for now over 4 years now, this time locked in the chapo comm so it can be more easily moderated, c/indigenous has now grown to 750 subs which im very happy plus now i take care of the empoc mega which has been pretty chill so far.
I still really enjoy the fedidrama, it fun to see all the fedilibs always thinking about hexbear despide the fact that they are on defederated instances and they can ust ignore us, we live rent free on their minds

A couple months ago I realized it had been a long time since I'd seen a Frank comment, so I was worried he was gone (from the site). But when I checked his /u/ page, he'd just posted again, and I was glad to see he was back. But it's now been another month since there was any word from him. @Frank@hexbear.net, when you do check back, know that your posting was appreciated and its absence is both noticed and missed. i didn't know regon on a personal level but if memory serves i do believe they deleted their account. not sure what happened, but we do tend to lose a handful of regulars per each struggle sesh that gets nasty, and IIRC late last year/early this year there were a bunch in quick succession and some moderation/admin controversies. i can't really speak to all the details i wasn't in the thick of all that.
What happened to zifnab and Frank?
Zifnab died on the hill of defending the DSA people that went to Cuba and behaved really poorly.

Oh man I miss EugeneVDabs. Something that was crazy to me was I had a wallpaper downloaded off of wallpaper engine and the one I downloaded and used for a while had a watermark of their name in the bottom right. I thought that was really cool
