I guess we're seeing play out in real time Trump's ability to damage control. Can he string along his drooling boob base by blowing smoke up their ass about this being a hoax or will they break off and turn on him? My bet, some are going to get pissed and turn on him but give it another week or two and the rest of these morons will move onto the next culture war slop trough.
Anecdotally the Chud in my life believes he's being threatened with assassination by Mossad, which is why he's backing down. Also that the GOP will force the truth to come out, which will not, somehow, result in his assassination by said Mossad.
Also he likes Israel and supports their wars.

He gets mad if I point out contradictions so I avoid it. But I think he'd come up with some creative workaround, I've stopped expecting anything rational.
I'd say yes on both counts.
He's likely going to lose more support over this than any of the other shit he's pulled so far, but it's still only going to be a portion of his base, and the rest are going to just pretend they never cared about Epstein and keep the faith.
I just checked out r/conservative to gauge their temperature and the whole front page is Epstein with 90% of the posts condemning Trump and speculating on his complicity. This is a sub that has been OVERWHELMINGLY defensive of Trump on every other issue, no matter how nakedly corrupt. The story is only growing by the day and it may very well be what implodes MAGA.
I'm also on the "they're going to forgot about this" train but if there's anything that could sink him, this would be it.
It's wild though because honestly I think Blue MAGA would absolutely not revolt against the Democrats, if they were in a position like this.

last time around he just ignored it and they had the leeway to convince themselves it was The Deep State preventing the release
this time around they made too big of a show about "we're gonna release the logs" and then suddenly did a 180, it's too obviously a coverup this time
Because of this "investigation" turning up "nothing" he's gotta say something about it and since he wants it buried this is where it's going

Turns out i guess there's a limit to what credulous morons will reconcile in terms of glaring hypocrisies and Trump saying "yeah the pedo cabal is a left wing conspiracy" is incompatible with this qanon cult Trump fetish that's been created
I imagine the accelerated pace of material conditions worsening even for his base is probably a factor in things that once held now giving. Many of his poorer supporters have lost medicaid, and many of his petit boug supporters are having their businesses ruined by tariffs. Even if they can't stop cheering for regressive face-eating leopard policies, they feel let down. I guess the failure to spin this episode well was the final straw for many.
