kind of a learning lesson for me, made a comment about it and clearly made someone uncomfortable. Most people in my life at least take the author’s side

Most people in your life probably parrot whatever the media tells them. When it's a rich white dude, it's "nobody deserves to die," when it's brown women and children, it's "Israel has a right to ~~commit genocide~~ defend itself." Ask them how they reacted when Bin Laden was killed, because as far as I remember the crackers were all celebrating then. Now how do we make that harmonise with "nobody deserves to die"?
