Why some open world video games of the late 2010s and early 2020s have been considered "Breath of the Wild clones"?

I just saw a discussion among corporate event planners where one person was upset that event organizers don't give proper consideration to scheduling over top of Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur.

I can appreciate the annoyance, when I was still a practicing Christian I would never think to schedule a work thing over Easter or Christmas. We should treat others with consideration, and should be mindful of what others view as important days. But I also don't know what each religion considers to be major, non negotiable holidays. Do you?

Another question, does it matter where the event is? (for example, in the US should less consideration be given to holidays of religions that have fewer adherents?)

For the purpose of this question, the target age range is 20-30. Asking because I feel like I'm wasting my youth.

I will be turning 30th in the next two months. Not really upset or scared about aging, but Im starting to feel down on myself when my wife, mom and dad ask about what I want for a party.

My wife turned 30 a few months ago and we rented a community center room for a few hours, fed everyone there dinner, hung out and then went out for drinks. That was pretty fine, but I'm dreading my own party.

I've lost contact with most of my friends over the last few years, but I try to not let it bother me. I'll check in with 2 buddies once or twice a year to make sure they are ok and that's pretty much it.

I am starting to feel like a loser for not having any friends though. I understand people don't have as much time for friends as they get older, but after my 21st sucked, I tried to set a goal of making my 30th better with people I want to be around. Flash forward 9 years and I have no one to invite besides my immediate family and in laws

I'm trying not to say "truthfully I don't care" as I wouldn't make this post if it was true, but I'm leaning that way. Both of my parents just did their 50th and was a huge party both times. My wife had a bunch of people at hers. I am feeling like a loser having no one to ask, and like I'm going to poach my wife's friend group if I want to fill the roster.

It's such a weird feeling. I already feel exhausted keeping up with the small group of people I do talk too, but also feel like I failed because of some arbitrary rules/goal I set for myself 9 years ago. I am more than happy with my current life and this really never bothers me besides "landmark" life events. Last time I felt like this was planning my bachelor party when I realized I had no one to do anything with, but just took a weekend trip by myself to walk around a state park for a day or two.

Sorry for the rambling, I just feel off/weird about this whole thing. I don't really ever feel the need for more friends, but when I have to do milestone events, I realize I'm really lacking in that area. Anyone else in the same boat or was like this before?

Almost everyone agrees there should be more compromises in politics. So I'm curious, how would that play out?

While I love the policy debates and the nuances, most people go for the big issues. So, according to the party platforms/my gut, here's what I'd put as the 3 for each party:

Democrats: Abortion rights, gun control, climate change.

Republicans: Immigration, culture war (say, critical race theory in schools or gender affirming care for minors) , trump gets to be president. (Sorry but it really seems like a cult of personality at this point.)

Anyway, here's the exercise: say the other side was willing to give up on all three of their issues but you had to give up on one of your side's. OR, you can have two of your side's but have to give up on the third.

Just curious to see how this plays out. (You are of course free to name other priorities you think better represent the parties but obviously if you write "making Joe Pesci day a national holiday" as a priority and give it up, that doesn't really count.)

Edit: The consensus seems to be a big no to compromise. Which, fair, I imagine those on the Right feel just as strongly about what they would call baby murdering and replacing American workers etc.

Just kind of sad to see it in action.

But thanks/congrats to those who did try and work through a compromise!

It gets used online for things, and there are whole communities devoted to shitposting, but I can't find a clear set of rules for something to count as a shitpost. I remember querying whether a post on a shitposting community was witty enough to be a shitpost rather than just a shitty post, but of course not all the responses to that were terribly helpful!

Feeling like I'm spending too much time doing nothing, and I know the mobile app for Lemmy on my phone is a huge part of this. Has anyone else tried removing Lemmy apps from their phone to cut down? Any unexpected consequences you have noticed?

If both person who direct message each other do not rat, do the company they work at (who pay slack) can access direct message?

Do Slack rat their user to their client ?

Lately when I forced to login to FaceBook they will sent a WhatsApp message to my phone number, even though I don't use WhatsApp. I'd like to see if there is really an account with my number. I tried going to the web client but it seems to be requiring to pair with a device app.

This is likely a very niche request, but perhaps there's a genius here with the answer - or can point me to a better place to ask.

If I want it to look like a web page is loading an interlaced gif over an old modem connection, would there exist some tool to convert a given static image to an animated gif (preferably downsampled to 256 colours)?

You know, the one where it starts off as one giant coloured block which then gets progressively segmented into thinner lines with more detail as each interlaced line is received...

I guess it's another way of asking, "What event in your life had to most effective impact?"

Is there a good community for sharing funny or ridiculous threads of lemmy comments and conversations?

I sneeze really loudly and powerful and often I can't control it. What makes it worse is, its often sprays a lot of saliva as well. I'm safe most of the time if I can get to my handkerchief or tissue in time. But there are times I have no other option but to let it out. Has anyone found a way to tame it and make it milder or easier to control.

I know there is some sensitive people who don't like to see or hear about violent crimes, should I label my posts which include violent crimes as NSFW?

We have finally reached the point where we no longer have enough space to dry our clothes indoors, and will need to invest in a dryer.

We have a washing machine in our bathroom (also small) so the dryer would ideally go under/over that.

Does anyone have experience building or buying an appropriate stand? The dryer and washing machine will likely weigh about 50-60kgs each.
