My wife wanted to order a spice rack for our kitchen that fit in the cabinet. Our current setup was just a mess so she found one on Amazon and called to me to get the tape measure out in the garage. I yelled back...grab the tailor's tape in the junk drawer. Sure enough it was sitting between the set of random keys, a new bag of neon fish bait and an assortment of 9 volt batteries.

So...whatdaya got in yer junk drawer?

Last time i moved i got cold called by Comcast to sign up for Internet. I asked them the price, they gave some deal. I asked what will be the price in 2 years when the contract was up. "Oh, well that really depends on what services you sign up for." I tell them i want only Internet at this given speed and i will never sign up for anything else.

...the woman on the phone just stopped talking. I asked can she not tell me the price after all the specials run out and i get my last bill in the contract. She said "i dont know what you want me to say."

Apparently they dont want people to know how screwed you are with Internet. I told the woman that i was going to write a letter letting them know that her inability to answer a simple question was the reason i was not going with their service. She hung up on me. Sent the letter and i got a call a few weeks later asking ifni wanted a super crazy deal they "never give to anyone." I asked my question again and they couldn't tell me my final bill so i hung up and reported the number as spam to my phone carrier.

But that kinda makes sense. They never had that period where tech sucked and you had to struggle through it. Even as a developer I'm noticing the junior developers amazed at the stuff i know how to do and they ask how i soaked it all up. It's cuz i had to just to get basic shit to function.

When the last big Twitter migration to Mastodon occurred there were a lot new users complaining about things like documentation, bugs, etc. Old users and FLOSS supporters kept pushing the "its open source, write a doc or fill out a bug ticket" and evem included documentation on how to do those tasks.

Most people just continued to complain. /facepalm

Not a photographer but worked at the restaurant where a wedding party had their rehearsal dinner.

The groom stood up and gave a toast, all well and good. Not sure if he didnt habe parents or what but the bride's father talked a moment and gave the groom a few jabs that slowly turned into him almost roasting the guy. Took it that the bride's father didn't really like the guy. Groom made a jab back and the father slung it right back at him.

And that is when the groom goes off and slugs the bride's father square in the face and down he goes. Groom says a bunch of "fuck you and fuck you" and walks out of the restaurant. We ended up having to walk all these people to their cars because they were afraid the groom might come back and do something (ha like I'm going to protect your great aunt mulva if he comes back with a gun!).

A couple came into the restaurant a few weeks later, friends of one side of the wedding party. Turns out the groom went back to the hotel, packed up his stuff and left to go back home. Had all the bride's stuff packed and on a moving truck to her parents place before the weekend was out. Groom just flat out nope'd her.

They knew. They say that because they don't actually want to fulfill their employees needs.

We want to WFH because we dont want a 2hr unpayed commute. The way that ks fixed is for employees to consider the commute part of their 9-5 but that means we are really only doing 10-4 with an hour from lunch.

We want WFH because our lunch breaks don't easily get taken over by meetings because we arent sitting at our desk of the break room. The hour is an actual hour you can't contact me so more "lost time".

With WFH its harder to keep people around after hours as they can quickly mark their chat so to afk. That means no more 4:30 pop ins saying we need to stay late.

Turns out that when your employees can force their work time no one givea away free time. When you end WFH and try to squeeze out more time you're going to piss off a lot of people.

Copied from Google for those who don't want to deal with Google:

Dear all,

It is with a heavy heart that we have to inform you that Bram Moolenaar passed away on 3 August 2023. Bram was suffering from a medical condition that progressed quickly over the last few weeks.

We as family are now arranging the funeral service of Bram which will take place in The Netherlands and will be held in the Dutch lanuage. The extact date, time and place are still to be determined. Should you wish to attend his funeral then please send a message to funer...@gmail.com. If this is your issue then we need to also make the clarification of what is exactly happening.

The studies that happened, all published and available online via government websites. They aren't dumbed down for lay people, just the technical documents provided by actual scientific researchers. All of that is not being censored. If you have evidence of the government actually tamporing with medical publication then we have a bigger issue.

What is potentially being censored are generalized publications on non-medical, non-technical forms. The reason for allowing this type of sensoring are many of the previously mentioned.

So I think a better question to ask is why are people seeking any sort of informed statements from FB on medical conditions? At best what should be found on those sites are statements as to why one should be worried about a pandemic, that a vaccine exists and you should seek advice from actual medical professionals. Side affects should NOT dictate the default stance on a public health issue. If you are worried about them, having been susceptible to side affects in the past, then you should speak to your doctor.

If you can't get the vaccine without the inclusion of a doctor, nurse, or pharmacist then you shouldn't be given medical advice of any sort from the same laymen. FB should not be allowing any sort of information about medicine beyond it exists, and it is important you go talk to your doctor.

Worked in a resort area and some big church group showed up and tipped using money like that. Like a party of 20 people type group.

Everyone started calling around to establishment saying if you get a group of 20 and they all look like Jesus folk tell them to leave.

They are being treated just like every other method to send someone money. They aren't using them as investment products, just transaction tools. I'm sure most are pulling the money out of the cryptocurrency as soon as they receive it.

I have an RG353V currently running ArkOS. Works great, plugged it into my TV and looks great there too. Tried both a USB Xbox controller and PS3 controller and neither seem to be recognized (both of which I know Linux kernel models exist to support). Wanted to pick up a couple of SNES style controllers (kids mostly play Nintendo games) but wasn't sure if anyone could vouch for specific brands or models they know work on these platforms.

This just popped up in a feed of mine, looks like an interesting project bringing retro games to new consoles. I guess I'm wondering what other's think. Would you be willing to buy your old game again?

Or users could toss a few bucks to their instance and the instances get way way more than ad revenue would bring.

It is quite interesting how games came out in the past that never got updates. Now you install a game and the first thing it does is downloads updates for a day before you can play.

That is literally the complaint from ex-employees of his companies. He is Tony Stark meets Michael Scott. So much money it compensates for sheer stupidity.
