The only “lesson” we are taught so far is to actively boycott anything US-made or US-adjacent. Hopefully we will never again sign up for any sort of “trade deal” of the size of NAFTA/CUSMA either, choosing to partner with friendlier and more trustworthy nations. So - thanks, Donald - you strengthened our national unity and helped us become even more resilient and independent than we’ve ever been.

There is more to this story, of course:

https://apnews.com/article/china-anthropic-ai-us-amodei-3da458d2c078da3e60900728d59f1ae8

it’s not that he is concerned about AI threat in general, he is mostly concerned about being trampled over by evil foreign AI.

Anthropic = Good, Qwen and DeepSeek = Eveeeeel!

Having a huge variety of distributions does allow you to be more selective though, based on whatever criteria is important to you. Re: RedHat - they are now an IBM subsidiary, so yeah- rather US-based.

Quite a bit to choose from: Arch is Canadian, and two very nice and user-friendly derivatives are Dutch and German, respectively: EndeavourOS and Cachy. Debian is “global” - no headquarters, with contributors from all around the world. Ubuntu is backed by British-based company. OpenSuSE is German, with Swedish financial backing.

The answer is always black metal, as raw as you can bear.
