When life gives you lemons, make Lemmy.

Interesting for this video to have just come up on my feed yesterday.

Really? I find the opposite problem. Ratings are inflated and even utter trash on IMDB is 6 or 7 out of 10.

I think part of the problem is that the scale is not used properly. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would consider 5 to be average. Most movies seen are average. Average is well worth watching. 5 is a decent rating as far as I am concerned. I'll even watch a 4 or a 3 if someone tells me that some aspect of the movie was worthwhile. But most people seem to treat the scale as if they only are willing to watch 8 and above, and that anything below a 7 is trash.

It would be much better if there was a site to input your ratings and for it to match you to users and critics similar to your taste. I used to use Last.FM like this for music but haven't found anything similar for movies or TV. Ratings alone are useless because critics and users alike will swing all over the scale for the same movie. Tastes need to match.

OP seems to have a number of comments about smart watches, so I'll chime in with some support.

I agree that smart watches are a gimmick. People obviously feel very attached to theirs even in these comments, but it is a product that is amplifying the worst parts of smartphone. Namely the constant attention grabbing notifications and monitoring for data mining. Why does everyone need to see instant messages the second they arrive? Take your attention back. The tracking is also insane for people to opt in to. Location and sensor measurements are constantly being recorded. These mostly don't even serve any purpose unless you act on the information. It would make sense if someone took more steps if their step count is low, but most don't act and you don't need a tracker to prompt some activity if you've had Aa sedentary day anyway.

I agree with OP that smart watches are a dumb product.

Between immigrants and AI taking British people's jobs; there are going to be no jobs left at all.

It's rich people not wanting "riff raff" hanging around. No one cares if you're hanging around slums and ghettos.

Yup. I've been using RSS for ages and have almost given up all social media now to move to RSS. I want very detailed control of my feeds and especially want to be able to block key words (I want to block all USA-centric news, gossip, sports news, etc).

Pluma app (Android) was best for a phone based solution.

I've been moving to more FOSS options. Now I use Read You (f-droid) and sync this with my home server Tiny Tiny RSS deployment for sync. TTRSS does a great job of blocking things before pushing feeds to my phone.

It has been great to see more professional content. Social media feeds have always been trash and are now increasingly trash+slop. User comments are also just a toxic cesspool mostly and I don't want that. I would recommend RSS to everyone. Take control. Reject the algorithms. It is way better than even going to news sites. News sites serve stories on their front page according to their own algorithms. RSS sends you news stories chronologically. It has really improved my relationship with news. RSS is also the best way to follow webcomics.

I give her a phone call and say happy mothers day. Even if she's visiting me at the time, it's still not a big deal for us.

My wife likes getting something small so I get a chocolate box and have the kids make a card for her. And if my mother is visiting at the time then I do the same for my mother.

I do this frequently as well. I have about 30 to 45 min after school drop off and work starting and I just have a nap in the car. It's pretty comfortable for a short sleep on a reclined driver's seat.

I do 12 hour shifts in the day. Theres and hour long break. Same applies to the night shift overnight and it is normalised for people to find space to sleep in their break. It is about getting this socially accepted in the day.

I'm outraged that this isn't normalised at work.

Kids sticker bombing sounds like a great idea. Might do that.

The most wholesome and non-toxic men's space I have ever found.

The Mrs is happy I won't be spending so long in the garage now. It's ended up being bigger than I thought and is a huge eyesore, but it works fine.

My kids are playing a lot of video games these days. They play a few indie games and Nintendo Switch games. I wanted to give them their own device, but wanted to stay on a low budget in this PC hardware pricing environment. So I thought I would make a poor man's Steam machine/Gabe cube. I took inspiration from this YouTube video about making a broken laptop into a media PC. So I bought a broken laptop (smashed screen and dented case). Got it pretty cheap in an eBay auction (HP ENVY 17-da0503sa - Intel Core Ultra 5 125H - 16GB DDR5 RAM). Took the working parts out and made a case for it.

I wanted to increase the TDP to its full potential and add a cooling mod to make it silent. Unfortunately the machine wouldn't start properly without the original fan attached and the TDP was hardware locked. Noisy fan curves were also hardware locked. In any case, I got Bazzite on it and it seems to run their indie PC games and Switch emulated games at 60 FPS fine. Half pleased and half disappointed, but using it for now. Might upgrade in the future and make this a server PC instead, but it is working for its intended purpose for now. I need to push some metal mesh across the front to finish up. I've been a PC gamer for a long time and I'm enjoying doing some couch gaming with split screen Mario Kart 8.

Yeah I installed that one you're thinking of.

I was having trouble with access to my work remote desktop from home. Each time I was told the issue was fixed, I went home and it didn't work again.

So, I used my work PC to use remote desktop on my home server, and use that to remote access the work remote desktop again. Managed to troubleshoot the problem and complete the steps I needed to do on site to get this working.

I'm new to self hosting and am really enjoying having access to my home services. I chuckled at remote desktop inception, but it's been really helpful in solving my problem.

And when I get bored of Hollow Knight, I pick up Gran Turismo 4 and Slay the Spire.

There are lots of good FOSS options.

I would strongly recommend checking this site for the trackers in an app if you're at all concerned about privacy. Links to each app's exodus privacy report is also at the end of the table linked above.

FYI, Nova has been owned by a data mining company for many years and it is worth moving away from even if you think it is good enough now and doesn't need updates.
