Boots. I bought a pair of good leather boots after trying multiple cheaper brands- 4 years and they're still going strong.

I don't think so.

1. Commit to the bit. If you're deadpan, see if you can keep elaborating on a joke without cracking a smile until it's so damn silly you've got to laugh. People like it, and it's an easy transition to make for people who have a serious-seeming sense of humor.

2. Consciously remind yourself that everyone tends to assume that mistakes are caused by inherent properties of people, but sometimes there are fuzzy but real reasons why people say and do dumb stuff- bad day, distracted, etc. Try to give people the slack you'd like them to give you when you get wound up on some dumbass opinion.

Man, I totally forgot about this story. That takes me waaaaay back.

Just English. I've tried to learn Spanish repeatedly and it didn't stick, so I decided to do something completely different. My girlfriend speaks Russian fluently, so it seemed like a logical language to try. It's not as hard as I was expecting, honestly.

Oh, yeah. I was mainly just thinking about global climate change, but I could see it having a large impact on local air quality.

I'm fairly pessimistic about the long term odds of beating climate change.

That vast majority of emissions aren't from individual commutes to work or the store, but from industrial processes and transportation. Increasing heat will lead people to stay inside in general, which will raise electric demands, leading to more emissions, though.

I could be wrong about the commute spiral, I don't have any hard numbers, it's just a guess.
