Yes, and food consumed from exertion. Simon Clarke actually did a really interesting video on bikes and ebikes and how good/bad they are for the environment, now and looking towards the future.

Tldw; a vegan on an ebike is one of the most energy efficient modes of transportation on the planet, haha.

This is good, but neglects the bike and ebike categories, which a considerable amount of the world also uses.

A very hard landing, NYT reported that he beefed it. Which is unsurprising considering they went down in extrmely heavy fog and rain while flying over a remote mountain range. You're just asking for trouble at that point.

The seat is going to another conservative politician, so probably not. One can always hope, though. Iranian civilians would really benefit from a more relaxed leader. Though the supreme leader is really the one running the show. Perhaps he will also get on a really old helicopter, flying in the extreme fog and rain, over a remote mountain range like this guy did.

All these are kinda no brainers, lol. I think we are still going to need nuclear as a baseload power supply where hydro doesn't work because it's too dry or flat. We gotta get off "clean coal" and "natural gas" as baseload power. I like sodium reactors and advanced, non-light water designs. Light water has become a political hot potato even though it is far safer than coal plants in terms of number of people hurt or killed by emissions.

As the coal and gas industry has done, advanced designs will need new names like "natural rock" to distance themselves from negative connotations.

Buy a security bitset! It is surprisingly handly to have around. Sometimes, I've needed a certain screw size that they don't have in imperial, but they do have in metric at the hardware store. But it's a security bit only.

They also work on regular, non security bits in a pinch.

Shifter on Youtube has a fantastic video on how Paris is changing their roads to be better for biking. Highly recommend it! I hope my city uses it as a template.

I use an Oxford Monster chain and U lock. I park my bike in highly visible areas. Registered it with 529 garage and have the tracking sticker on it. And if I'm really sketched out, I activate a bike alarm that is ungodly loud.

Mostly, it's about making your bike harder to steal. Cutting through 12mm chain and a standard ulock sucks. Getting caught with it being easily identified on 529 makes it risky to steal and easy to be returned. Some cities also do bike valet or bike lockers.

I'm really not a fan of China, but I'm inclined to agree. We need smaller, more affordable vehicles. SUVs are antiquated, and trucks are largely decorative for most of the population. We need smaller, lighter vehicles. Though we also should be investing much more into mass transit rather than (largely redundant) highways and roads anyways, as it's a huge waste of taxpayer money. Keep the key highways, build rail to reduce reliance on shit we shouldn't really be rebuilding anyways. A lot of highways are going to be hitting the end of their useful lives soon, anyways, and require rebuilds.

A lot of our grid is actually comprised of various smaller entities. Advanced Reconductoring could help, as building new lines takes ages due to permitting and localized red tape. We don't have a central authority to coordinate building new lines, so upgrading existing lines to better technology could allow us to get closer to bridging the gap.

However, one of the downsides is that it will still be difficult to connect new solar and wind farms in remote areas, due to the need to build virgin powerlines spanning urban-rural areas. This is one tool we can do in the present - near future in order to improve our grid. Another is advanced monitoring sensors so we can transfer more electricity without accidently overloading transmission lines. Both are relatively low-cost alternatives to building new lines.

The more data we collect, the more we realize our assumptions about the universe may be incorrect. This is the first year data of a multi-year study on mapping the position of galaxies.

He took barren and dry lands and turned them into incredible forests. People thought he was insane as they fled dying villiages. They burned his forests. He replanted his forests and tripled his crop yields, becoming a hero to farmers all over.
