Hi thanks for the response,

Not necessarily disagreeing with you but I've been posting to lemmy exclusively through tor on multiple accounts for quite a while and haven't encountered any blocking or issues.

Some instances may reject certain emails but I've been using onionmail with success.

To be honest I think it's pretty easy for bad actors to spam/evade bans/etc on lemmy and tor isn't at all necessary for that.

Also good point about the federation, thanks for pointing that out.

Hello all,

Just wondering if there are any projects involving lemmy and .onion

I searched and didn’t see anything but I figured I’d ask

If not is there a reason this isn’t possible? Or has nobody cared to do it yet?

When I have to visit r****t I use a libreddit hidden service, and there are quite a few to choose from. Am I correct to think a similar mirror should be about as easy to implement for Lemmy?

an onion only instance where it never touches the clearnet would be really cool too but it would probably be a ghost town (sadly).

Love to hear your thoughts

Thanks

Doesn't it also use cloudflare? I would avoid that if possible

I actually didn't realize syncthing worked over the internet, I've been using it for years thinking it was LAN only haha

Hello,

I'm trying to send something to my gf's friend (~50gb)

I tried creating my own torrent and was able to dl it on another device, but on her machine it stayed at 0% and wouldn't let me connect to seed

Is FTP a good option? I set up a proxmox server last night but I don't really know what I'm doing yet

Any guidance greatly appreciated, thanks.

I see, sorry for the assumption.

Apologies if you already know this but there are tons of different instances of searx hosted by different people.

It's possible the speed issue is related to the specific instance you tried, do you remember what it was?

Here is the list of all them: https://searx.space/

As I type this I realize I'm probably just not sensitive to slowness since I use tor for all my browsing lol

What do you like about those over searx?

I know this is /c/android but semi related for desktop I've been using and loving Freetube for a good while now.

Make sure you go through all the settings though (like sponsorblock), I recommend base theme "catppuccin mocha" btw

according to a quick search yes! not able to torrent it rn to verify however.

On Nobara you can just double click .exe files and they open perfectly with winetricks. Absolutely bonkers.

This is with an nvidia card too, 0 issues 0 config needed

Awesome! Thank you for that info that's exactly what I needed.

On Real Debrid + VPNs (links.hackliberty.org)
submitted 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) by Negligent_Embassy@links.hackliberty.org to c/piracy@lemmy.dbzer0.com

Hello,

I set up Stremio + Real Debrid for my girlfriend and we have been really enjoying it.

Since we use different VPNs at the moment, I had the idea to create a VM with stremio and a connection to the same server she's connected to.

The idea being we could use the debrid account simultaneously and have the same IP.

I quickly realized that the last digit of our client IPs were 0-3 digits off from each other, IE:

185.243.218.89 vs 185.243.218.90

Upon seeing this I stopped and checked the debrid account/email to check for a warning and saw nothing.

Question 1: Is this safe/acceptable, or is this considered breach of debrid TOS?

Question 2: Would configuring a VPN on our router solve this issue? Or would it be the same situation?

I'm a bit of a networking idiot as you can see but I'm on a journey to learn.

Thanks in advance
