It is sort of funny that this insane level of protection placed on intellectual property by the US tech industry is exactly why the Chinese are crushing the US in terms of innovation, since the Chinese basically have an open source economy while based on what I know, you can't make anything in the US without having to pay 100 different patent holders.

Yeah, you're right. I work for a federal laboratory, so I and everyone around me have been swimming in doomerism since January 20th. It's been a rough few weeks. But I definitely need to find a way to climb out of this.

It is hard to be optimistic in times like this, for sure. I don't blame you for feeling this way, but we as a group must support each other and keep our eyes on the ball. If we allow ourselves to fall into the trap of doomerism the ruling class wins because they rely on everybody being too tired, propagandized and atomized do anything to fight back. One could say that to be a bloomer in a society is doing everything it can to make you a doomer is an act of defiance.

At the very least, take solace in that no matter how hard they try as long as people have a conscience and a desire to see themselves and those around them live better lives our struggle will continue. This foundation of compassion makes our movement capable surviving regardless of how hard the ruling class tries to destroy it.

Meanwhile, capitalism relies on very specific circumstances to exist because it is based on a series of assumptions that allow a system based on greed to avoid being torn down by the majority. Circumstances that the system of capitalism is now destroying on its own through the negligence and arrogance of those in charge of this system.

Capitalism is now terminally ill. Our long-term objective as leftists will be to see it die as painlessly as possible for the working class so that something better can succeed it. I think that is a source of some type of hope.

This type of misanthropic thinking will get us nowhere and just make us look like total dickheads. Americans are fucking idiots, it's true. A lot of them have dumb, reactionary beliefs or just have totally incoherent beliefs that make them like a flag in the wind. But if we want change in the United States this is the population we have to work with. At this point though, We better be able to work with what we've got. It is increasingly clear we are on a short timeline to avoid catastrophic damage to our global society and the ecosystem that capitalism is destroying through its rapacious need for infinite growth.

There is cause to believe that the spell of the propaganda is breaking, and the illusions Americans have been living under aren't matching with the reality they live in. But the challenge is that have been intentionally deprived of the tools to think about their problems. The task of the left, in the short term, is to give them the language to talk about their problems then show the people that they don't have to live like this, that their lives could be easier now. This is a matter of survival, and that demands pragmatism.

There is no time for doomerism.

Surely Tesla has not released their independent crash testing data on the Cybertruck because it makes them look really good.
