I feel like Apple could have foreseen this when they marketed a dev kit as a consumer product.

Despite the persistence of anti-Black racism, White Americans report feeling worse off than Black Americans. We suggest that some White Americans may report low well-being despite high group-level status because of perceptions that they are falling behind their in-group. Using census-based quota sampling, we measured status comparisons and health among Black (N = 452, Wave 1) and White (N = 439, Wave 1) American adults over a period of 6 to 7 weeks. We found that Black and White Americans tended to make status comparisons within their own racial groups and that most Black participants felt better off than their racial group, whereas most White participants felt worse off than their racial group. Moreover, we found that White Americans’ perceptions of falling behind “most White people” predicted fewer positive emotions at a subsequent time, which predicted worse sleep quality and depressive symptoms in the future. Subjective within-group status did not have the same consequences among Black participants.

R&D spending (lemmy.world)

Before we get too excited, how much of that R&D funding is on which color of button makes you most likely to click "Buy Now"?

I love Athletic Brewing Company. Their Oktoberfest is very good, and their Blueberry Lemon Mango sour is my favorite NA beer on the market. I also really like Best Day, especially their Kolsch.

I feel like maybe you don't know what a headless component library is. A cli has a head -- the terminal. Headless applications, by definition, have no visual portion. For instance, a headless browser is a browser where the web page renders in-memory, but never displays any content. A headless component library, then, is one where the implementor doesn't provide anything visual, only behavior. For web dev, is very helpful -- the library implementator writes all the js, but the css and html (the "head") are left to the user for use. The best headless component libraries, then have nothing to screenshot without the user supplying some implementation.

We just finished Season 2 of The Bear on Hulu, which is focused on the gang starting a new restaurant. I really enjoyed it, and my partner said that The Bear is probably top 5 shows of all time when we finished watching, so I'd highly recommend it.

p sure you're looking for a web component. You'll create a new component that can be used like

<my-header></my-header>

Then import the file with the definition of the custom web component on both pages et voilà! You've shared your header between pages.

I will admit I'm a bit biased because I'm the author of a web component framework: https://tybalt.org . But! I still think that's what you're looking for.

Also, I'm open to people who disagree with my assessment that Lemmy is superior -- if things like number of MAUs or site stability are the most important thing to you, then you'll definitely disagree and that's fine! I more meant that people can change and evolve over time and that doesn't make them hypocrites.

This was the great promise of the fediverse -- that you would own your profile, and that you would have one profile across the entire fediverse, and that you could migrate that profile from instance to instance if you had disagreements with the admins of your instance -- but it seems to have fallen by the wayside with real implementations, which is disappointing.

For sure! My comment was ambiguous; I meant we could consider running government-backed instances of open-source, standards-based social media, not "let's give tumblr a pile of money".

Thanks for being chill in the replies. I read this back just now and it came off a lot more hostile than the jokey/flip tone I had in mind. I don't want you to delete your account; I like social media and I wanna hear your perspective, I just meant to kid about posting comments creating more social media which is against your stated intent.
