Things can still happen simultaneously. If a "distraction" is ruining lives then you shouldn't be ignoring it. If Trump enacts martial law to seize the country don't ignore it for the sake of it being a "distraction".

Honestly, it would be some pretty funny shit if he got hit by a random bullet someone shot into the air from like a mile or so.
Or Democrats. If a Republican shoots a Democratic senator it's okay. E.g. three months ago
Two Democratic senators were shot just a few months ago. One died.
But that's okay and no cause for alarm.

The shooter could be a live long Republican with the parents, spouse, and kids all being Republicans. They could have the dog trained to attack minorities and they could be someone that was very publicly vocal about every and all Republican talking points.
But they'd find a single photo where they are wearing a blue shirt and say they've secretly been a Democrat all their life.
