The Gazans are themselves hostages; everyone living in Gaza is a literal hostage of the Israeli government. The people being held by Hamas? Literally living on land owned by Gazans. Home invaders don't own the homes they invade; didn't think that needed saying and yet here we are.

The death count as of this moment is as low as 100 and as high as 274, most of them children.
