You are ADORABLE, and also some kinda goddess for getting Gentoo working, please bestow a boon on this lowly Ubuntu mortal ❤

[–] gqt@lemmy.blahaj.zone 12 points 2 years ago (1 children)

took me like 19 hours to get the VM "running" and my Xorg config is still broken BUT I CAN NEOFETCH!

and thank you!!!!!! ^//w//^

[–] Hupf@feddit.de 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Isn't X.org mostly configless nowadays? As long as the relevant kernel options are set that is.

What kind of hypervisor are you using?

[–] gqt@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 2 years ago

i must have messed something up really badly but I cant get xorg to work at all and startx gets me a fully black screen no matter what I do t configure my USE flags and kernel to use the VirtIO virtual machine drivers, but im not that committed to getting a WM working on my VM because im getting a new x86_64 laptop soon anyways

Gentoo? Impressive! You can compile your own gender and distro!

Trans rights! 🏳️‍⚧️ (Seriously, I got Gentoo to compile once on an old T420, and I felt that was good enough, and then went back to Arch. Good work!)

[–] gqt@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

That's good enough indeed and very impressive :3 trans rights!!

[–] milicent_bystandr@lemm.ee 7 points 2 years ago

Assigned Arch At Install

Now identify as Gentoo.

Can only see two nails from this angle but dam that paint job looks awesome! Do you have any tips to get them looking this even?

[–] gqt@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 2 years ago (1 children)

they do look awesome!! but all credit goes to my mom, she offered to do them when i visited her, i usually mess up w the coating :< the key is to do light coats, wait for them to dry, then do 1-2 more light coats

Here's my technique. It gets me at least 5 days without chipping (more if I'm using a crème or jelly), and I'm rough on my nails.

Start with both hands:

  1. File and shape your nails
  2. Using cuticle oil and a cuticle pusher, gently push back your cuticles (don't trim them!)
  3. Wash your hands thoroughly
  4. Use 100% acetone to clean and dehydrate your nails

Take a pee break now because you don't want to mess with a fly or underwear with wet nails.

Now work on one hand at a time:

  1. If you have ridged nails, use a ridge filler to achieve a smooth surface to work with; otherwise, consider a coat of strengthener
  2. Apply a layer of base coat (not too thick or thin)
  3. Using a good quality self-leveling polish, apply one thin coat to each nail. Go slowly and be sure not to flood your cuticle (there should be about a 1mm gap of empty nail between your cuticle and the start of your polish). It's OK if this coat is a little patchy because most polishes don't give single-coat coverage, and self-leveling polish will automatically smooth out some unevenness, but do your best to get it even without making it too thick. Use an angled brush with 100% acetone to gently remove any excess around the edges of your nail.
  4. By the time you finish one coat on each nail on this hand, the first finger you painted should be dry. Apply a second thin coat to this hand (always starting with the same finger), being sure to also paint the free edge of the nail.
  5. Depending on the finish and color of the polish, as well as your nail length, you may need a third coat. Same instructions as 8 above.
  6. Apply a layer of good quality quick-dry topcoat, again painting the free edge of each nail. This layer can be generous but not tooooo thick.
  7. DON'T YOU DARE TOUCH ANYTHING for at least 10 minutes. Seriously. Listen to a podcast or watch the birds through your window, but you will fuck up your polish if you don't let it set. (Do I ever follow my own advice? No I do not. If like me you end up mildly fucking up your polish, you can probably use your tongue to very gently massage it back into place. Yes it's gross but it works!)
  8. Once your polish has sufficiently set, you can paint the next hand.

Some product recommendations:

High-quality brands which tend to have self-leveling polish:

That's so thorough, thank you so much! Gonna try all of that next time around!

What are the chances of me becoming gay if i install arch linux on a thinkpad?

The odds are pretty low I'd say.

I use arch btw

[–] zexu@lemmy.world 5 points 2 years ago

I'll be gen(tle)too 😉

[–] mumblerfish@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I'm trying to install a gentoo prefix on my aarch64 mac right now. Seeing this gives me hope that I may figure it out (although I have some 3 build failures so far).

[–] gqt@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

My Gentoo install on mac arm64 (VM) have been substantially difficult with many failures building my initramfs, to even getting my display to show my terminal. but i eventually got it running, and im sure you can too B)

[–] princessnorah@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)
