Ben Norton from Geopolitical Economy Report says YouTube demonetizes videos if he says the word “genocide” in a recent video he had to refer to it as “the g word” lol

I really hate this moronic censorship regime for the sake of advertising. It doesn't even work either, it just makes everyone use made up words or phrases to avoid censorship. If I learned this as like a 13 year old in RuneScape, that I could type fvck, or whatever the fuck and get around that censorship, it kind of boggles the mind that advertisers are still employing this idea of targeting specifically words. Obviously some specific words (slurs mostly I guess) have specific spelling, usage and meaning derived from that usage so avoiding censorship to use them by default sort of waters it down. But if you want to speak about genocide and keep, I dunno, saying "I-word is doing a G-word to the P-word people!" to maximize the ads by avoiding censorship... I mean what are we even doing here...? [obviously not blaming creators for doing what they kinda gotta do. It's on Google and the advertisers to stop the silliness]

I really hate that in tik tok. People inventing 1984 type words to describe death or suicide, like grow the fuck up.

A comrade of mine said, "this is why the intercept is going broke. Everybody already knows this shit."

[-] YEP@hexbear.net 20 points 4 months ago

I think its good that a news organization like the intercept actually puts it in print.

[-] Juice@hexbear.net 10 points 4 months ago

So do I but I def know where my comrade is coming from. It practically already is in print in 100,000 different ways that nyt is a bourgeois rag. If this is the headline that convinces someone of class antagonisms, awesome. But yeah this isn't exactly news
