It’s well past time.

But welcome to the party all the same. We have cookies.

[-] jordanlund@lemmy.world 36 points 2 months ago

Was going to say... "been time".

But a Trump win poses the biggest threat of a Christofascist power grab that I've seen.

[-] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 27 points 2 months ago

Honestly, at this point, Trump is just a puppet who gives them what he wants because they let him do what he wants. I suspect once an actual christofascist gets into power he’s as fucked as the rest of us.

(He is a fascist, just not a Christian.)

It’s probably prudent to tar every Republican with the brush, no matter who they are; at best they’re perfectly willing to work with them.

Wait I have been worried for years, where are the cookies?

[-] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 7 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

did Bob eat them again?

would you like snickerdoodle? oatmeal-cranberry? lemmon madeleleines? meringue drops?

[-] Everythingispenguins@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago

Bob needs to learn to share. Oatmeal-cranberry please

[-] xmunk@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 months ago

They're chocolate chip made with weed butter.

[-] dhork@lemmy.world 73 points 2 months ago

Let's call them Nationalist Christians instead.

Or "Nat-Cs" for short....

[-] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Pronounced Natsy?

Maybe we could just call them Nancy? Is Nancy already taken like Karen is?

(Apologies to anyone actually named Nancy,)

About 50 years too late...

I'm talking about these new-school "Evangelicals" hell-bent on taking over the US government. Republicans started courting these people in the 70s after Nixon made them look bad. Since then they've taken over the Republican party and have serious plans to install a dictatorship should they get one of them elected president.

[-] GlendatheGayWitch@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago

They had McCarthy in the 50's around the same time that the Christian Nationalist changed the pledge of allegiance and national motto to include their god.

W... wouldn't christian be only 2000...

[-] dudinax@programming.dev 2 points 2 months ago

Not if you believe Christians. They've been predicting the first coming of Christ for centuries.

[-] Everythingispenguins@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

Shhh they are a creationist.

[-] solidgrue@lemmy.world 41 points 2 months ago

They never weren't. All y'all just haven't been paying attention.

The Pompous Pious have always been Just One More election away from enacting their plans. Never sleep on them if you value your way of life.

[-] june@lemmy.world 38 points 2 months ago

That time was 45 years ago. It’s kind of too late now, the wheels are turning with more than 4 decades of inertia behind them.

[-] jhymesba@lemmy.world 34 points 2 months ago

It's time to start worrying about Christian nationalism...

Only now? Lol. Christian Nationalism has been a threat my entire adult life at a minimum, and twice on Sundays!!! And these days, well, we've all been baby-eating, baby-fucking Satan worshippers in the eye of the Qooqs since at LEAST 2016, if not before. It's LONG past time to stop worrying about Christian Nationalism!

[-] SamsonSeinfelder@feddit.de 25 points 2 months ago

Andrew L. Seidel and his book presentation titled "The Founding Myth: Why Christian Nationalism Is Un-American" fit in here. He really captures some key phrases that fits very well with the topic.

The best indicator of a Trump voter in the 2016 election was not race, was not religion, but was actually the believing the United States were founded as a christian nation.

He goes deeper how evangelicals shifted over decades the perception of topics and artifacts to feed their myth. The actual Segment is only 18 Minutes long (starting at Minute 3:10) before it goes into a Q&A Session. Pretty on point how he describes the situation. Video is 4 years old..

Great book. 👍

[-] originalfrozenbanana@lemm.ee 19 points 2 months ago

The best time to start worrying about Christian fascists was yesterday. The second best time is today.

[-] PoliticallyIncorrect@lemm.ee 14 points 2 months ago

Christofascism?

[-] chakan2@lemmy.world 8 points 2 months ago

Lol...we should have worried about that in the 50s...little late now.

[-] AtHeartEngineer@lemmy.world 8 points 2 months ago

Someone yesterday at an event told me they are having their 8th kid because of Jesus

It was time to worry about it like 8 fuckin’ years ago at the very least, but I guess you can start now too…

[-] captain_aggravated@sh.itjust.works 5 points 2 months ago

Hasn't Christian Nationalism been a problem for over a milennia now?

[-] Phegan@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

It's been time for like 40 years.

[-] systemglitch@lemmy.world -5 points 2 months ago

Keep the division flowing so no one focus' on the true enemies.

[-] Gradually_Adjusting@lemmy.ca 5 points 2 months ago

It's fascists. Fascists are your true enemy.
