Very unkind things said about animalsFUCK pigs, hogs, boars, warthogs, and anything of the family Suidae. They are giant, smart, unpredictable, and pure muscle. People think that just because they are smart that they'll be 'civilized' but no, they are monsters. People have pigs that live in their house and I am always shocked and disgusted because 1) They are pack animals, so it is abuse to just have one or two in your possession and 2) They will eat you if anything happens to tick them off. Such as stress from not being in a pack. They are also nearly unstoppable in a moments notice if it does attack. We all remember the '40-50 wild hogs' meme. It is genuinely nearly impossible to stop one (or a pack, as can happen in the wild) if they decide to attack.

Do not mess with swine. They are dangerous. They should not be kept indoors or at all.

Like Cody Johnston? Does he hate swines?

Edit: Oh, yes he does! I just used to live on a hog farm, where I learned to properly hate these terrible creatures.

He has several hour long episodes about feral hogs that are both extremely amusing and concerning

It wasn’t just an attack, as far as Austin was concerned, but a murderous act of betrayal, one that shattered everything he thought he knew about the deep bond between man and pig. “For years, that animal trusted me everyday and I trusted him,” Austin said. “I put blood, sweat, and tears into his life, and he decided to kill me.”

Maybe you were wrong bro

Alternatively a great plot to a room mate story about a lib and a cop.

I've said this in another comment but I don't necessarily think he is, on the surface. Cast the first stone if you never snapped at a love one for some reason or other. It's just that our snapping is verbal (or, worse, admittedly) and a wild hogs snapping is doing this thing, which kills you instantly

This strikes me less as a “live in a Disney movie” thing (that’s more like people getting Dalmatians) and more a “man shall have dominion over the earth” thing. The idea that man can subjugate and domesticate any wild animal he wants. That’s why you tend to see these exotic animal ranches in Texas, it’s not just having the room or the climate, it’s that there’s a lot of Texans with that mentality.

Even regular domesticated pigs can kill farmers pretty easily, and wild hogs are very dangerous animals, they are strong, heavy and those tusks aren't there for decoration, they WILL gore you if you fuck around them too much

You have to be quite the narcissist if you believe a bond (which may or may not exist) with that hog will stop them from killing you if they get spooked

Stop humanizing animal thought processes. For goodness sake, they do not think like us at all.

Domestication is, in large part, breeding animals that think in ways humans find predictable and relatable! Even then, it’s just an approximation!

Stop humanizing animal thought processes. For goodness sake, they do not think like us at all.

On the basis of honest discussion I disagree with this, at least partially. It seems very much remniscient of the whole "subdue the earth" bullshit that seemingly has guided much of human politics because some 19th century dickweeds couldn't accept that man and beast aren't actually that dissimilar. That's a being with emotions and some kind of things akin / near feelings. (and sorry if I'm very much triggered here im-vegan )

I genuinely think the bigger problem here is pushing it too far. If the actual goddamn wild hog grows up with you, it considers you a peer, pack member or whatever, because animals do form social bonds. Crucially, it is too fucking dumb to realize you are way, way more squishy than another hog which would've licked their wounds about this and recovered.

I think the moral of the story here is big, wild animals aren't mindless killers that adhere to no social relations, it is that the risk if your wild hog ever misjudges the amount of rough housing it can do you're dead as fuck because wild hogs are terrifyingly durable. Do not get too friendly with an animal that, as soon as it approaches a group of 10, will fuck up any civilisatory achievement made by humans.

I don't think we're so different in spirit, but i do think we're very much different in razor sharp tusks backed up by 300kg of angy

This sounds a lot like "they do not think like us at all," especially combined with how easily they might interact with other hogs in this manner.

Beyond "they too feel pain and suffering is bad," the pro-vegan arguments that compare humans and animals have never struck me as very persuasive.

What, because they don't think on how much damage they might inflict on an otherwise loved ( /liked) one?

[–] PosadistInevitablity@hexbear.net 6 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Animals are not just “stupid humans”. That thought has gotten many people mauled or killed by confused or scared animals. You’re patronizing these creatures by essentially calling them too stupid to understand their own actions. They are sapient beings, they act with intent.

A five year old human wouldn’t randomly attack and seek to draw blood on what is essentially their parent without serious provocation and warning given. This behavior would be considered severely mentally ill if exhibited by a human. It is normal for a hog.

None of what I said has any bearing on whether they should be eaten or not. It is wrong to eat something that can think and feel.

Humans are blessed by evolution with the concept of empathy, and it’s our duty to use it.

[–] asa_red_heathen@hexbear.net 3 points 1 year ago

This is a lot of words to say "non-human animals do not think like humans because they are different". It doesn't matter how close in "spirit" we are to other biological organisms we are, the material circumstances of our existence are different and therefore we are different. A hog will always be a hog even if you teach it to count and respond to its name. That's not an argument that devalues their lives as living organisms, recognizing that non-humans and humans are different should not devalue the lives of non-humans to a vegan.

[–] Hexbear2@hexbear.net 2 points 1 year ago

I agree. Mammals have higher brains and reasoning, on the scale of animal eating ethics, eating mammals is the least ethical, compared to certain fish/reptiles (not saying anyone should eat any animals) just that mammals have the most advanced brains as we understand them, and birds are pretty advanced too.

Having said that about mammals, it's not clear that other mammals form the same types of long term bonds that humans expect. Like, I did all this great stuff for this animal, so this animal is going to treat me good. It's more like, the animal is reacting to get what it wants, and it's very encounter to encounter.

This definitely feels like a fairy-tail character. A frail and withdrawn boy hangs out with the animals in a zoo and all that.

[–] FoolishFool@hexbear.net 3 points 1 year ago

This seems really morbid and fucked up, the description of the attack is horrific.
