they seem to be making a million little choices that make the game worse, which isn't what you want in a remake

P3 Reload proves Atlus are cowards because they could have included FeMC from P3P and the post game stuff from FES and chose not to

C'mon, don't say that, they'll surely release P3R: Eat Your Dead Edition with FeMC (featuring Dante from Devil May Cry) in 3 years or something. Well, she still won't be playable, but you'll be able to add her to your harem, rejoice!

Yes but then what will they sell to us again for $60 in Persona 3 Reloaded Blue Edition in six months?

[-] Gosplan14_the_Third@hexbear.net 8 points 10 months ago

Persona 5 blowing up commercially was the worst thing to happen to Megaten. They found a cash cow, and those famously require little effort except for maintaining a permanent status quo to not scare off the money.

all the tiny update drops are lame as fuck too. Release the game or just do like 2-3 bigger reveals.

I saw a trailer yesterday and even blew up like "This is the longest wait of all time for a piece of shit remake!!!". I feel like I've been hearing about this goddamn remake for like 4 years and I don't even play the fackin' series jesus!!!!!!

Persona 3 did not need a remake eric-andre

[-] Gosplan14_the_Third@hexbear.net 6 points 10 months ago

The game looks visually good, but I'm just not interested in a remake - especially one that doesn't seem to be interested in improving upon the original game.

I wouldn't know, I have in the first time in a while kept myself completely spoiler free beyond learning about the new voice actors, shiny new game remake, and new re-recorded music soundtrack.

I'm fully blob-no-thoughts and happy

oh this was about the music, i didn't like the new opening. i'm just being a hater (but not in a way where i want other people to not buy the game or anything), i hope you enjoy!

[-] Alaskaball@hexbear.net 2 points 10 months ago

Is it because Yumi's stepped down from the plate and the music director chose Azumi to replace her as lead vocalist? Or is it more the art direction or animation sequence direction?

personally i feel like it's too similar to the persona 5 vibe which isn't what i want. persona 3 has a sound, and it's a sound i like. persona 3 has a look (though not as distinct as the sound) and it's a look i like. they're just making it look and sound like p5 because p5 sold gangbusters and they want it to remind people of that even if it makes it so much less of its own thing

if you compare it to burn my dread, it comes up short for me. burn my dread is designed for persona 3, it's got a little stutter to it, it's kinda janky, but it all comes together really nicely. it anchors it in a feeling. the new one is too smooth, the only thing it's aiming for is 'blue persona 5'

i also think it doesn't treat the evoker imagery with the weight it needs (which is admittedly true of the original game, but less so.) burn my dread feels angry when it shows the pc using his evoker, the drums kick in and the guitars blare and it comes after a lot of setup of the guns being shown ominously. the new one just has a montage of people shooting themselves in the head while fairly upbeat pop music plays

[-] Alaskaball@hexbear.net 4 points 10 months ago

I get that. I'm feeling like they're trying to keep all the older p3 vibes more under the hood so new people diving in can experience the story and its overarching motif as unexpected and undiluted as possible.

[-] Cromalin@hexbear.net 4 points 10 months ago

i do hope i'm wrong and that it's just a good remake of the game that keeps the things i love and makes it work, the promotional stuff just personally rubs me the wrong way

[-] Magician@hexbear.net 6 points 10 months ago

I thought Super Mario RPG had an exceptional and faithful remake. They only added to the game, but otherwise left the story unaltered.

Seeing these other remakes fail to do anything meaningful to justify the full price tag, I just feel sad. They could have woven in The Answer and FeMC with the lore expansion from the Arena games, but they're not even trying.

With the way the previous versions of P3 had transphobia and homophobia, I don't really want to retread a game that doesn't want to comment on itself as a flawed game. Like yeah, it brought features popular in other persona games, but I don't want to spend money or time on a low effort cash grab.

[-] peppersky@hexbear.net 5 points 10 months ago

Who still gets hyped about damn remakes in the current year of 2024 ???

[-] Comp4@hexbear.net 4 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

Probably people that never played the game before ? Mind you im not hype for it but should I ever get around playing the Persona games its nice that there is a remake

[-] GinAndJuche@hexbear.net 6 points 10 months ago

If you ever do, please consider emulating the psp version. There are many paragraphs of fan ranting that I could go into, but that would make me look unhinged.

[-] Alaskaball@hexbear.net 2 points 10 months ago

You post on hexbear. Go off comrade

[-] GinAndJuche@hexbear.net 5 points 10 months ago

that’s fair, but I’m hesitant because the persona games are so incredibly vibes based that they could still create a over and good play experience based off the changes. The ~~advertisers~~ games journalists rarely have the creative chops to take artistry into account. And they’re the ones with behind the scenes access and get to put forth the details.

It would just be about the making it clear how there are going to be five versions of p3p and all of them have exclusive sets of content.

Just make a fucking complete edition already.

[-] GinAndJuche@hexbear.net 5 points 10 months ago

Simply combining the two versions so there would finally be a complete version would have been smart and made a lot of money. Making a smart and fan-pleasing decision is the opposite of the Atlas ethos.
