MODERATORS

There's a separate thread for the Senate elections, because that's far, far easier to track than the House races and the Gubernatorial races.

Consider this thread open to everything else! House, Governor, state and local measures, everything else!

Polls start closing at 7 PM Eastern, 4 PM Pacific. My plan is to be obsessively posting results as they come in.

Current standings:

US House of Representatives:
Republicans: 218
Democrats: 214
Vacant: 2
Independent: 1

Rep. Tony Gonzales (R-TX23) resigned 04/14/2026.

Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (D-FL20) resigned 04/21/26.

Rep. Kevin Kiley (CA3) flipped from R to I in March, 2026.

Every seat is up for re-election with 218 necessary for a majority.

Update Current called races put the House at 253 D, 160 R, with 22 still undecided. As near as I can tell, Republicans only managed to flip a single Democratic seat, Texas 32.

Anyone have any educated projections on where the house will likely end up?

[–] jordanlund@lemmy.world 2 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

I've been hearing likely 255, maybe 258? A stunning swing as it is from 214.

Thanks! Love this walloping

Susan Collins has been defeated. Looks like Maine voters finally wised up.

I can’t believe I’m about to go to sleep and have an actual, real chance of waking up to a blue Texas. It was mythical, intangible, a flight of fancy. And now I might see it with my own two eyes. I know I shouldn’t have even looked but I just couldn’t resist.

[–] jordanlund@lemmy.world 27 points 2 days ago (4 children)

Abbot just conceded! You can go to sleep now!

Friend of mine noted how nice it is that Elmo Muskrat wasted all that money on the election.

[–] dragontamer@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Musk still proved that he's a Trillion are willing to dump $400++ million into elections for the lulz.

It's still a bad thing. Trillionare didn't even waste 0.1% of his wealth on this election.

We need campaign finance reform, or at a minimum a concerted effort to punish Musk (and other Billionaires) who fuck with our elections.

Thank you, MAGA, for this generational win. Watching Hannity choke down tears while announcing Andrews' win in South Carolina gave me such a wonderful sense of patriotic schadenfreude.

So it seems we overthrew the government yesterday. Good job, everyone.

But we’ve still got two years of the shitstain, so it’s going to be tough for a while.

[–] HazardousBanjo@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (3 children)

We also have to keep the same pressure on the Dem Congress we were putting on the MAGA Congress (or even more because that wasn't enough either).

How many more DSA and generally anti-genocide politicians are in power now? Michigan even elected the anti-Fetterman in El-Sayed. The anti-genocide bloc is no longer a tiny fringe group, it DECIMATED AIPAC last night.

The pro-universal healthcare bloc is no longer a tiny fringe group. The people DECIMATED private healthcare funded Super PACs last night.

People need to understand we accomplished last night. We sent a message to the DNC that every Dem who defies their voter base can lose, no matter how much money they fight is with.

We CANNOT lose that energy

[–] TheLadyAugust@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago

We also have to keep the same pressure on the Dem Congress we were putting on the MAGA Congress (or even more because that wasn't enough either).

YES! For some reason, this is where everyone gets lost. We have these people talking about how voting Democrat won't matter because they're still not going to be effective, they're not left enough, there's no point in ever voting or performing your civic duty and that we should all give up and die.

But like, take the energy and anger you have against Republicans and apply that to the Democrats et. al. when they actually have some kind of power. NOW is the time to push for change. Lean on the old gaurd and show them what we want out of their party. We just showed that we'll cut out the rotted growth of America if given the chance. Dems that don't get the picture should be next.

The fight has ONLY begun.

I cannot believe Texas is going blue! Hell yeah!

[–] 2piradians@lemmy.world 32 points 2 days ago (9 children)

Texas fuckery for you: My coworker is a registered voter and Puerto Rican. He tried to vote a few weeks ago, but the lady at the election place got sketchy and told him there's a problem with his registration.

Yesterday he got a new registration card and planned to vote today...but they pulled a switcheroo on the location. The place where all the early voting happened is closed today in favor of an alternate location.

He was a maga voter last election who has since learned, and these barriers to his vote have reinforced his move back from the dark side.

Mississippi was called R, but super close: ~15,200 vote difference with 92% reporting. That would have been insane. I wonder if it's in recount territory. (Independent Ty Pinkins got 19,000 votes, for what it's worth.)

https://abcnews.com/Politics/mississippi-2026-live-midterm-election-results/story?id=136767242

Edit: Too close to call, probably going to head to recount territory either way. Colom ahead by 48(!) votes as of 1:12 AM:

Incredible that with a Fascist government destroying the economy, there are still going to be hundreds of Republicans elected.

[–] vividspecter@aussie.zone 14 points 2 days ago

Now greater than 95% chance Democrats take both the House and Senate, according to the NYT tracker.

[–] SnarkoPolo@lemmy.world 11 points 2 days ago

I'm relieved more than anything. I really thought Republican fuckery would bone us.

[–] criss_cross@lemmy.world 12 points 2 days ago (2 children)

I will nut so hard if Talarico clinches it.

[–] chronicledmonocle@lemmy.world 13 points 2 days ago (3 children)

It's been called for Talarico. And Abbot has lost to Gina. Texas is going HARD blue tonight.

[–] jordanlund@lemmy.world 13 points 2 days ago

Tallarico is pulling the Hispanic vote by an insane margin.
