Comic Strips is a community for those who love comic stories.

Rules
  1. 😇 Be Nice!

    • Treat others with respect and dignity. Friendly banter is okay, as long as it is mutual; keyword: friendly.
  2. 🏘️ Community Standards

    • Comics should be a full story, from start to finish, in one post.
    • Posts should be safe and enjoyable by the majority of community members, both here on lemmy.world and other instances.
    • Any comic that would qualify as raunchy, lewd, or otherwise draw unwanted attention by nosy coworkers, spouses, or family members should be tagged as NSFW.
    • Moderators have final say on what and what does not qualify as appropriate. Use common sense, and if need be, err on the side of caution.
  3. 🧬 Keep it Real

    • Comics should be made and posted by real human beans, not by automated means like bots or AI. This is not the community for that sort of thing.
  4. 📽️ Credit Where Credit is Due

    • Comics should include the original attribution to the artist(s) involved, and be unmodified. Bonus points if you include a link back to their website. When in doubt, use a reverse image search to try to find the original version. Repeat offenders will have their posts removed, be temporarily banned from posting, or if all else fails, be permanently banned from posting.
    • Attributions include, but are not limited to, watermarks, links, or other text or imagery that artists add to their comics to use for identification purposes. If you find a comic without any such markings, it would be a good idea to see if you can find an original version. If one cannot be found, say so and ask the community for help!
  5. 📋 Post Formatting

    • Post an image, gallery, or link to a specific comic hosted on another site; e.g., the author's website.
    • Meta posts about the community should be tagged with [Meta] either at the beginning or the end of the post title.
    • When linking to a comic hosted on another site, ensure the link is to the comic itself and not just to the website; e.g.,
      ✅ Correct: https://xkcd.com/386/
      ❌ Incorrect: https://xkcd.com/
  6. 📬 Post Frequency/SPAM

    • Each user (regardless of instance) may post up to five (5 🖐) comics a day. This can be any combination of personal comics you have written yourself, or other author's comics. Any comics exceeding five (5 🖐) will be removed.
  7. 🏴‍☠️ Internationalization (i18n)

    • Non-English posts are welcome. Please tag the post title with the original language, and include an English translation in the body of the post; e.g.,
      Sí, por favor [Spanish/Español]
  8. 🍿 Moderation

    • We are human, just like most everybody else on Lemmy. If you feel a moderation decision was made in error, you are welcome to reach out to anybody on the moderation team for clarification. Keep in mind that moderation decisions may be final.
    • When reporting posts and/or comments, quote which rule is being broken, and why you feel it broke the rules.
Banned Artists

The following artists are banned from the community.

  1. Jago
  2. Stonetoss
  3. GPrime85

It should be noted that when you make reports, it is your responsibility to provide rational reasoning why something should be removed. Saying it simply breaks community rules is not always good enough.

Web Accessibility

Note: This is not a rule, but a helpful suggestion.

When posting images, you should strive to add alt-text for screen readers to use to describe the image you're posting:

Another helpful thing to do is to provide a transcription of the text in your images, as well as brief descriptions of what's going on. (example)

So uh. Is speak to me and breathe (in the air) considered one or two tracks here? The joke hits very different if it refers to Time or On The Run.

[–] h0tbeef@lemmy.zip 42 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (3 children)

It’s one track. The meme is referring to Time.

Edit - Track one is Speak to Me / Breathe

No paranthetical

I think we should all just join hands, form A Perfect Circle, chill out

[–] Neverclear@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 5 days ago

Ughh... I'd rather have an Ænima

Both copies I own have it as two separate tracks, as does streaming.

My 50th anniversary edition:

My early 80s (I think) pressing:

Apple Music:

Those pictures are of the sleeve obviously but the records themselves also echo this. I don’t have an original pressing but I’d like to get one at some point.

[–] h0tbeef@lemmy.zip 4 points 6 days ago

Yes, that appears to be the norm

I explained my reasoning in another comment if you’re interested, but it’s not important enough for me to retype

While I sgree on combining them it is the unconvential way. This is old vinyl side A

And Wikipedia has a note under track listing on that spesific topic.

So track 3 would be on the run, at least on the vinyl he got :3

[–] h0tbeef@lemmy.zip 3 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Interesting. I first heard it on CD, which is why they’re the same song in my mind (also, it’s difficult to decide where the division would be made from a production standpoint. I assume that’s why they made it into one track for the CD, there’s no good place to split the recording).

The meme makes way more sense if he’s talking about Time tho

I don’t know, I guess it depends on how you’re listening to it. Lyrically obviously, Time would make more sense. But On The Run could be sonically more interesting, or at least give the appropriate reaction if you’re high maybe. I could definitely see someone hearing On The Run for the first time, with good headphones in, while high, and just being totally entranced. At the same time, I think that goes for any Pink Floyd song actually.

[–] h0tbeef@lemmy.zip 4 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (1 children)

Oh, I’m by no means trying to downplay the quality of On The Run, I just think that Time is a particularly insightful and moving song.

[–] BurntWits@sh.itjust.works 4 points 6 days ago

Fair. I love Time, it’s one of my favourite songs ever written. I’m just saying both would work quite well for that reaction, especially if the listener is high.

“And then one day you find ten years have got behind you. No one told you when to run - you missed the starting gun.”

To anyone who finds this line chilling and profound, I have good news for you: You’re still young! Past a certain age, you start turning around to realize this or that thing was 30, 40 or even more years back. 10? Ha! Seriously, if that seems like a lot then the good news is you must still be pretty young. Still, of course, don’t miss the point of it.

[–] CandyMountainCharlie@feddit.online 7 points 6 days ago (2 children)

I'm in that transition period right now. Where I'm fully realizing the weight of how fast time has flown and how much I'm aging but yet I've still (theoretically) have a semi decent amount ahead of me. Every year the song hits a bit harder.

[–] stickyprimer@lemmy.world 4 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Just take care of your body. Get in good exercise, sleep and diet habits. Get rid of any addictions. Seriously you’ll thank yourself.

All the rest about life choices and regrets and whatever else, I don’t think there is any universal advice.

[–] NovaVeles@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago

I will make a broader statement with the addictions. Try to minimize dependence in all its forms. Not just chemical, but social, physical and economical. Easy to say, difficult to do but it is worth it.

[–] Lag@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago

Hit it back harder next year after some gym time.

After listening to a Pink Floyd album on vinyl (Wish You Were Here), I totally understood why people in the 70s would get blasted on weed/acid and zone out to it

[–] massive_bereavement@fedia.io 16 points 6 days ago (2 children)

Shine On You Crazy Diamond is absolute tops, it is a trip indeed.

[–] whoisearth@lemmy.ca 6 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Remember when you were young?

[–] 46_and_2@lemmy.world 6 points 6 days ago

You shone like the sun.

[–] idiomaddict@lemmy.world 3 points 6 days ago

They used to play an album of Pink Floyd extended tracks at my gym. It was terrible workout music, but otherwise really nice.

[–] shalafi@lemmy.world 11 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

My best friend brought his new girlfriend to his bd party at my house. Somehow, and I don't know how, she had no clue he sold LSD. Him and I start tripping and she busts out his gift: Dark Side of the Moon. Chris and I were like

I'm frantically whispering to him, "Dude! Are you SURE she doesn't know?!"

Her: "You want to listen to it now!"

YOU BET!

[–] Pat_Riot@lemmy.today 8 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Hell, I got stoned as could be the other day and let Wish You Were Here take me for a ride. It's my second favorite Pink Floyd album.

[–] swab148@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 6 days ago (2 children)
[–] Shartyfartblast@piefed.zip 7 points 6 days ago (2 children)

Don’t sleep on Atom Heart Mother

Your username is fucking great

[–] Pat_Riot@lemmy.today 3 points 6 days ago

For sure not.

[–] Pat_Riot@lemmy.today 3 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (1 children)

You'll probably be disappointed, but #1 for me is Momentary Lapse of Reason.

My #3 is on the other end at Saucer Full of Secrets.

And Dark Side is great, but man, have you heard the Easy Start All-Stars version, Dub Side of the Moon?

I pretty much just live Pink Floyd though. Like, I won't turn off any of their records except maybe The Division Bell.

Edit: Animals is for sure top 5

London Philharmonic Orchestra did an amazing cover of this album. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=mN--9-tbiio

Jesus - But Peter, don't drop the needle on the third roar of the lion in the beginning of the Wizard of Oz ...

[–] s@piefed.world 6 points 6 days ago

Ironic that all band members on that album were atheists

[–] Someonelol@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 6 days ago (5 children)

It's a great album but I'm gonna be downvoted here for saying this: the screaming in Great Gig in the Sky was so damn awful. The first time hearing the album was an amazing experience that kind of sucks you in to the music but damn, when the screaming started it was like being woken up with a bucket of cold water. It totally ruined that track for me.

All that said Pink Floyd got me to Prog Rock and opened me up to Alan Parsons, Camel, Yes, and so many other great acts. The golden age of that genre was far too short.

[–] 46_and_2@lemmy.world 12 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (1 children)

Not downvoting you, but you have hurt me 😅

Great Gig in the Sky has some of the most emotional singing I have heard in any music. And I'm someone who generally doesn't like when singers over-vocalize and show off in songs. It just seems stupid and pointless on run-of-the-mill songs, but in Dark Side of The Moon and this track especially it seems very appropriate to me, someone has literally died and ascended is how I understand the track.

Also this particular performance by Claire Torry is what sells it for me, I've heard live versions where it just doesn't sound so incredibly moving as the album track does.

Of course, it's all down to personal preference.

[–] Someonelol@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 6 days ago (1 children)

That's understandable. It gave you an experience you loved and that's ultimately what matters. I just have a thing about wailing voices that hits me like nails to a chalkboard. It's also why I couldn't get into Led Zeppelin even though John Bonham was a master drummer, right up there with the likes of Bruford and Portnoy. Robert Plant's voice just somehow cut through so much of it and takes me out of the experience every time.

Great Gig in the Sky might be my favourite individual track of music. That having been said, I won't downvote you for it.

You've already suffered enough.

[–] Hossenfeffer@feddit.uk 3 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

the screaming

She's wordlessly vocalising the entirety of the human condition. From birth to death, from innocence to loss, from love to betrayal, from ecstasy to agony, from profanity to enlightenment. From birth to death. Some of that is bound to suck!

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 3 points 6 days ago

No.3 in the 9-track or the 10-track version?

In the first, no.3 is Time, in the latter its On the Run.

[–] Simulation6@sopuli.xyz 5 points 6 days ago

Track 3 definitely woke me up.
