Mr. Spock: A Vulcan would face such a loss without tears.

Young Spock: How?

Mr. Spock: By understanding every life comes to an end when time demands it. Loss of life is to be mourned, but only if the life was wasted.

--Star Trek: TAS, Yesteryear

Thanks. That's very nice.

The Royal Shakespeare Company describes the actor as a "colossus"

Close, but he was actually Professor Xavier.

With Alzheimers and Lewy Body dementia, I am glad he can rest now.

What a terrible combination of diseases to suffer from simultaneously.

[–] NovaVeles@lemmy.world 8 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Pretty much. Most have an image of how they wish to go, peacefully in their sleep is a good one. But to have that combination is to be in such a dreadful state. Alas, it is not of our choosing at the end of it all.

[–] SouthEndSunset@piefed.blahaj.zone 3 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Yep, my grandmother had Alzheimer’s/Dementia, if not that bad a case. Fuck both of these diseases.

[–] roboflop@feddit.uk 3 points 4 days ago

My dad too. His team thought he had Lewy Body dementia but was never confirmed before he passed. That shit is truly awful.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 7 points 4 days ago

same thing with robin williams, he had a severe case of it.

[–] SubstituteTurkey@lemmy.ca 45 points 5 days ago (1 children)

This one really bummed me out.

"You're not married, you live alone and you've never watched Star Trek?"

"No"

"Good lord"

👌

[–] flamingo_pinyata@sopuli.xyz 22 points 5 days ago

I didn't know he was 86, it's less surprising in that context. Still a bummer, a legend is gone.

[–] Simplicity@lemmy.world 15 points 5 days ago (1 children)

His obit better goddamn start with stardate. I'm not even a trekie.

[–] Kurtismayfield@lemmy.zip 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

The man had so many good roles. King Richard, Gurney Halleck, that guy in that Toby Hooper movie about space vampires. Do we have to just talk about Star Trek?

RIP Captain Ahab

[–] Simplicity@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

Totally agree. But his obit can still start with stardate.

One of the greatest Shakespearean actors of the last 100 years and one of the funniest voices in American Dad has died... Also he was in Marvel shit.

Rest in peace Sir Patrick, you are free now.

I swear to Satan if glorious Sir Ian McKellen dies before fucking Trump and terrorist Netanyahu I'm going to lose my shit.

God does keep taking the wrong 80 year olds....

[–] Spacehooks@reddthat.com 8 points 4 days ago

From when 1st saw him in dune as a child, I saw him as a role model and father figure. I cried hard all the way home after watching Logan because of him and I never cried in a movie in my life. I hope he understood how much impact he had on the lives of his fans. The characters he played really embodied what it meant to be the change you want in the world.

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 11 points 5 days ago (2 children)

man. I really thought shatner would go before him and chekov.

[–] NovaVeles@lemmy.world 7 points 4 days ago

It is amazing how long Shatner has kept going. But that is the power of 'Denny Crane!' ;)

[–] rozodru@piefed.world 3 points 4 days ago

Shatner was recently on Jonathan Frakes and Brent Spiners podcast and he still looked the same as he did like 20 years ago and still sharp as a tack. I think what help keeps his mind sharp is he stays up to date on stuff. Like he was quite knowledgeable about AI for example. for being 95 he acts like he's in his late 60s.

[–] LadyButterfly@reddthat.com 6 points 4 days ago

Oh noooooo! I've been dreading this day for years I fucking love him

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 11 points 5 days ago

A great actor, and a decent human. Rest peacefully Captain. You've earned it.

[–] how_we_burned@lemmy.zip 14 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I don't use any shit owned by fbook

What did he say?

[–] victorz@lemmy.world 5 points 4 days ago

On stage talking about himself at the greatest actor ever, and about his history, and his thousands of sexual conquests of imagine objects. It was a bit. 😊

[–] TheRealLinga@sh.itjust.works 3 points 4 days ago

Wish there was a way to watch this without Instagram

[–] Tolc@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Loved his performance as Lenin. RIP

The Lenin stuff is the best part of that whole series, and yet it is so fleeting compared to all the royal melodrama.

[–] itisileclerk@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago

He will be missed.

[–] Tja@programming.dev 4 points 5 days ago

He was very cool. RIP

[–] Feathercrown@lemmy.world 3 points 5 days ago

RIP, one of the greats for sure.

This Magic set is gonna blow up!

There are signed cards in the collector packs.

It will be because of his influence.
