Showerthoughts

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

Can't believe I'll be the first who write it there

Finally, shower thoughts

They're posting thoughts about showers. Shower thoughts.

[–] doomslang@lemmy.zip 33 points 6 days ago

Just giving my thoughts on showers.

FWIW I worked maintenance for a very large apartment community and at least 20 years ago the MOEN cartridges were very nearly bulletproof. They're what I retrofitted into my house when I bought it.

[–] db2@lemmy.world 12 points 6 days ago

I'm reasonably sure this is about shower heads. Not that it should change your answer other than the cartridge bit though.

I have their kitchen faucet in my current place and in my last, both were great and I have no complaints.

[–] GreenKnight23@lemmy.world 13 points 6 days ago

fuck delta with a rusty knife.

all their products require special tools and parts to service.

[–] AlecSadler@lemmy.dbzer0.com 12 points 6 days ago

What's also helped me is ripping the regulator out

Kohler is shit now. Like equity firm enshittified shit. The last 3 products I've bought from them have been defective and unusable, including a toilet costing more than 1k. The lid stopped working on the first day. I tell everyone now, stay the fuck away from that company.

Kohler is never getting a kopeck of my money.

We put in a fancy one-piece Kohler toilet in the ~2000s.

Never flushed well because it was an early low-flow model and clesrly built for looks instead of functionality. The design provided no purchase for easily removing the seat for replacement, even with the special tool they provided for the task.

We finally broke down and replaced it with an American Standard which at least flushes well.

Fuck Kohler. I need a control board for my generator and Kohler just says tough shit bucko. And NOS are like $600, for what was a $20 part. I can buy a new generator for that much. So now I can either go through the board and check half a dozen relays in a clusterfuck of nonsense or sell it for scrap.

Upvote for kopeck

We need to get rid of the fifty dollar cartridges and return to the glorious days of the 10cent rubber washer. I can't believe we took this step.

I'm planning to do a period renovation of my mid-century bathroom and have been looking for new-old-stock Kohler Triton (not "Triton Bowe") sink and shower hardware. Just my luck that the stuff gets made for 60 years and then discontinued right before I want it!

The main reason I picked that specific style instead of a Delta or Moen is that the aftermarket makes cool 'atomic' handles for them:

atomic handle

I've already got the hardware for the sinks, but I'm stuck trying to decide between traditional two-knob controls for the shower vs. a Kohler Rite-Temp single lever valve. The Rite-Temp is "better," but the two separate knobs would be more period-correct. Anybody have opinions?

traditional valves

Rite-Temp

If you're going to be using the shower, then what you prefer!
I love the look of the traditional style but dislike using them for getting the temp wher i like it, so if it were me it would be the rite-temp.

Mixers are the standard now, I don't hate them but I prefer taps in a shower specifically, if I was going taps ceramic disc spindles are nice in a quarter or half turn.

[–] taiyang@lemmy.world 3 points 6 days ago (1 children)

I went with a Moen for my shower head. It was *fine *. Nice shower thought, lol.

[–] Madison420@lemmy.world 2 points 6 days ago

The largest Chinese rain head with an extension for me, going on five years no issues. Just don't forget the wall brace and restrictor if you have low water pressure.

[–] Proprietary_Blend@lemmy.world 3 points 6 days ago

Speakman ftw

[–] ieh@lemmy.world 2 points 6 days ago

Nicely done.

You got me completely. I've been banning spammers all day (I'm working on some mod tools that help identify some that fell through the cracks and should help us respond to reports better going forward), so my first reading was "Spammer?" lol.

Thank you for a very much needed laugh!

I don't understand any of those words used

[–] BevsDad@lemmy.ca 2 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

I mostly care about low water consumption but those are extremely hard to find. Even more so with a REAL stop button and not that dumb "trickle" mode.

Currently using a handheld bidet with a flow reducing valve upstream.

[–] surewhynotlem@lemmy.world 2 points 6 days ago (2 children)

I'm more interested in the maintenance side. How often do you remove them and soak them to get rid of the scale?

[–] Onomatopoeia@lemmy.cafe 5 points 6 days ago

From my experience living all over the US, the need to do this really depends on where you are.

Where I grew up, major problem. Where I am now, not a concern at all.

[–] arak@lemmy.today 2 points 6 days ago

This really depends on your water mineral percentage compared to others

[–] BorgDrone@feddit.nl 2 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Instead of going with one of those unknown (store?) brands do yourself a favour and get a Grohe.

[–] YetAnotherNerd@sopuli.xyz 2 points 6 days ago

Those are the large players in the American market. Delta has always been solid for me. Speakman for a shower head makes sense.

[–] Xraygoggles@lemmy.world 1 points 6 days ago

This is purely anecdotal but I've had maybe three issues with a Moen faucet over the years, and I've never ever even once talked to a customer service representative. Their reply to my support email is just a shipping notification for the replacement part. That's it, that's the whole interaction. Won me right over.

[–] Mycatiskai@lemmy.ca 1 points 6 days ago

If you are talking shower heads I have no opinion, if you are talking toilets then Flushmate is the only choice.
