Comic Strips is a community for those who love comic stories.

Rules
  1. 😇 Be Nice!

    • Treat others with respect and dignity. Friendly banter is okay, as long as it is mutual; keyword: friendly.
  2. 🏘️ Community Standards

    • Comics should be a full story, from start to finish, in one post.
    • Posts should be safe and enjoyable by the majority of community members, both here on lemmy.world and other instances.
    • Any comic that would qualify as raunchy, lewd, or otherwise draw unwanted attention by nosy coworkers, spouses, or family members should be tagged as NSFW.
    • Moderators have final say on what and what does not qualify as appropriate. Use common sense, and if need be, err on the side of caution.
  3. 🧬 Keep it Real

    • Comics should be made and posted by real human beans, not by automated means like bots or AI. This is not the community for that sort of thing.
  4. 📽️ Credit Where Credit is Due

    • Comics should include the original attribution to the artist(s) involved, and be unmodified. Bonus points if you include a link back to their website. When in doubt, use a reverse image search to try to find the original version. Repeat offenders will have their posts removed, be temporarily banned from posting, or if all else fails, be permanently banned from posting.
    • Attributions include, but are not limited to, watermarks, links, or other text or imagery that artists add to their comics to use for identification purposes. If you find a comic without any such markings, it would be a good idea to see if you can find an original version. If one cannot be found, say so and ask the community for help!
  5. 📋 Post Formatting

    • Post an image, gallery, or link to a specific comic hosted on another site; e.g., the author's website.
    • Meta posts about the community should be tagged with [Meta] either at the beginning or the end of the post title.
    • When linking to a comic hosted on another site, ensure the link is to the comic itself and not just to the website; e.g.,
      ✅ Correct: https://xkcd.com/386/
      ❌ Incorrect: https://xkcd.com/
  6. 📬 Post Frequency/SPAM

    • Each user (regardless of instance) may post up to five (5 🖐) comics a day. This can be any combination of personal comics you have written yourself, or other author's comics. Any comics exceeding five (5 🖐) will be removed.
  7. 🏴‍☠️ Internationalization (i18n)

    • Non-English posts are welcome. Please tag the post title with the original language, and include an English translation in the body of the post; e.g.,
      Sí, por favor [Spanish/Español]
  8. 🍿 Moderation

    • We are human, just like most everybody else on Lemmy. If you feel a moderation decision was made in error, you are welcome to reach out to anybody on the moderation team for clarification. Keep in mind that moderation decisions may be final.
    • When reporting posts and/or comments, quote which rule is being broken, and why you feel it broke the rules.
Banned Artists

The following artists are banned from the community.

  1. Jago
  2. Stonetoss
  3. GPrime85

It should be noted that when you make reports, it is your responsibility to provide rational reasoning why something should be removed. Saying it simply breaks community rules is not always good enough.

Web Accessibility

Note: This is not a rule, but a helpful suggestion.

When posting images, you should strive to add alt-text for screen readers to use to describe the image you're posting:

Another helpful thing to do is to provide a transcription of the text in your images, as well as brief descriptions of what's going on. (example)

Some guy's paying money so this 2009 article about Smurf reproduction can be scraped by hundreds of bots a day. Let's show some love:

https://www.terminally-incoherent.com/blog/2009/04/09/smurf-reproduction/index.html

Also, the anatomical accuracy here is kinda freaking me out.

It's actually wrong. The girl smurf is the only one with a dick. The rest are drones and sexually female, except for Papa Smurf who was the last male. But if the girl smurf was gone, the lack of her pheromones would cause Papa Smurf to start producing sperm again, and the rest of them sensing that change would become breedable once more. Then they'd lay fertilized eggs underground, where they hatch with 5% becoming male. The males would gather a few drones and go start a new mushroom colony somewhere else.

I... prefer the spore theory...

Although rogue homunculi is pretty good too...

I've gotta know what this is called

[–] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 3 points 3 days ago

Sounds like either mormonism or scientology

[–] then_three_more@lemmy.world 7 points 4 days ago

It goes into that though, Smurfette isn't a true smurf.

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 5 points 4 days ago

First you had me thinking the Smurfs were like that guy in the keep north of the wall in game of thrones. With all his wife daughters and whatnot. But then you started getting into eggs and I began questioning whether smurfs give live birth or how that actually works. I realize now, regarding Smurf reproduction, I have more questions than answers.

Every time I forget about “stacking,” someone posts this.

[–] Sunspear@piefed.social 10 points 4 days ago

Popular, but rather silly theory claims that the smurf hats actually conceal a male sexual organ, while their trousers conceal female organ. According to that theory Smurfs reproduce communally via stacking where the whole tribe gets in a circle and copulates with each other. This is rather silly.

Pure gold, thanks for sharing, I've learned something new (albeit disgusting) today

Parthenogenesis is a new word for me, jesus

[–] Jerb322@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Check out Clint's Reptiles, he talks about this in great detail in many different videos. Our natural world is crazy....

I love how physics and chemistry are like "this does this and this, except with extremely high energy this other thing can happen"

But with biology it's just "generally... this happens... but also this... and that.... and that one we dont have a name for yet...."

If it looks like a duck and sounds like a duck, eh... we're not quite sure. Could be a distant kangaroo...

Damnit Stoney! That’s a load bearing stem!

The euphoria of Death?

Red Cap Mushrooms are incredibly poisonous, and not even slightly hallucinogenic, except for maybe if you count the hallucinations caused by a brain starved of oxygen about to die.

[–] Funkt4st1c@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

amanita muscaria is extremely poisonious but also possible to somewhat safely get high off of if you dose correctly. Its just an extremely terrible high that is not at all fun or enjoyable and youd be better off just doing legal drugs like alcohol or weed if your state doesnt suck.

This isnt like a wink wink nudge nudge thing, legit do not do them. Its just being drunk with more brain damage.

[–] Sasha@lemmy.blahaj.zone 12 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

Don't go eating random mushrooms, IDing them is hard and you can easily die!!! There are look alike species and it can be hard to tell them apart.

That said I've eaten it before, they're quite a nice flavour when fried.

If it's an amanita muscaria, they are somewhat poisonous but they're also definitely psychoactive (I can't remember if they're hallucinogenic or a deliriant but it might be dose dependant). There are species of amanita that are incredibly poisonous, but the red capped muscaria can be dried or parboiled to be rendered relatively safe.

I personally wouldn't eat them trying to get high, there are better mushrooms with safer and much more fun things in them.

[–] davidgro@lemmy.world 7 points 4 days ago (1 children)

That's how they affect humans specifically.

[–] gwl@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 3 days ago

Ah good point, Smurfs might have a different physiology.

Looks suspiciously like that mushroom in One Piece (Netflix) s2. I'll need to see the next panels.
