Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on. Keep on-topic

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Was there ever any doubt about trump’s intention?

Of course he is doing this, he’s a monster.

[–] speckofrust@lemmy.dbzer0.com 0 points 1 week ago

It ain’t Trump. It’s the country’s history continuing unabated.

[–] melsaskca@lemmy.ca 36 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I think that is the common understanding. The reason it's not bandied about publicly is the amazing power of the billionaire owned media. We need to change those rules about media ownership before everything merges into one big ball of goo.

[–] Freeposity@lemmy.world 19 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

We need to change the rules about billionaires.

[–] ElChinchilla@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

I still think the tee shirt that you get at 1 billion of "congrats you won capitalism" and then get to earn no more money ever - is the best idea.

[–] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 15 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Fellow U.S. citizens.....we are the bad guys.

[–] treadful@lemmy.zip 0 points 1 week ago (3 children)

Most of us don't want to be the bad guys.

[–] impairedimperator@lemmy.zip 5 points 1 week ago

I don't think we get to choose that.

Look at Russians.

[–] radiofreebc@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Most of you didn't care enough to vote at all.

66% attendance being a record high is so disappointing.

[–] rumimevlevi@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

All your presisents are war criminals

[–] StupidBrotherInLaw@lemmy.world -1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Jimmy Carter was alright. The rest were awful.

[–] rumimevlevi@sh.itjust.works 0 points 1 week ago (1 children)

He was an alright war criminal, he still was ok with sending weapons and aid to Israel, he allowed coups to happen, he gave aid to the junta of el Salvador who murdered ton of people

[–] StupidBrotherInLaw@lemmy.world -1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

All shitty things, but none of them a war crime.

[–] rumimevlevi@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 week ago

An accomplice is a criminal too. Someone giving weapons to war criminals are themselves was criminals

[–] mHtt@lemmy.ca 12 points 1 week ago

Whatever is going on we can be sure broadcast media is hiding it.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

not like maduro wanst doing the same thing before, plus the current regime hasnt change, just more aligned to trump.

[–] Gonzako@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Yeah, but you make sure not to shit where you sleep

[–] boonhet@sopuli.xyz 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Great, the Americans have re-invented colonialism again!

[–] Bluescluestoothpaste@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I work with some Venezuelan immigrants, they're all unanimous that things back home are even worse now since the US invasion.

[–] silence7@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

That's really insane, given how people I know left Venezuela because of a lack of food

[–] conquer4@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Now they have the freedom of no security, resources, or food.

[–] Randelung@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

So the same thing it's doing to its own people, too.

[–] Eat_Your_Paisley@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (2 children)

Yea, what did the press expect to happen, there's a reason little Marco gets called the viceroy of Venezuela.

Exxon etc. get to be the 21st century east India company. Latin America should be arming and uniting right now, Trump and the USA can pick each country off individually but not if they act together.

[–] Asafum@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

Latin America should be arming and uniting right now.

Instead apparently they look at the far reich shit shows around the world and have decided "yes please, I'll have some of that too."

[–] Aeder@lemmy.world 0 points 1 week ago

Venezuelans were repeatedly told they were trading one dictator for another with Trump by literally every other Latin American that isn't a right wing dickwad, and their response was to tell every other Latin American to shut up because "they don't know what it's like" (never mind the fact that nearly every Latin American country had to survive through US backed dictatorships) or that they knew they were going to take the oil but that it was a step in the right direction 🙄.

Venezuelan online discourse now loves to shit on Delcy's puppet government while conveniently forgetting to mention who keeps it propped up.

[–] RaoulDook@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

All you need to understand it is to look at a map of where the most oil is known to be found

[–] itisileclerk@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Nothong to see here, USA is doing USA thing.

[–] Neverbeaten@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Dismissing it because it is normal is the wrong reaction. Our sense of rage at injustice needs to accumulate into meaningful action in order for anything to improve.

[–] Napster153@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

What I think they're getting at is that this is and always has been what the US does, but they are usually very insistent that it's 'DELIVERING FREEDOM' or some other spiel.

Growing up is realising the bluff and then getting mad at how long we've been tricked.

[–] ElChinchilla@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Disillusionment is real. Personally been a pretty pretty depressing journey, I wasn't even that "tricked" by the whole thing to begin with. But the last 20 years have been just outside of reality. Obama was a great orator and led with a calm poise, but our global policy was still unrelenting.

[–] JayK117@aussie.zone 4 points 1 week ago

He saw someone exploiting people and thought: I can do better.

[–] CrimeIsLegalNow@ani.social 4 points 1 week ago

Yep. Locked that puppet state into a price of $65 per barrel while market price is nearly $100 and will only go up.

[–] rumimevlevi@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 week ago

I remember a fool here supporting the kidnapping, he is nowhere to be found right now

[–] flop_leash_973@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

What the U.S. Is Really Doing in South America/the Middle East/South East Asia: Suppressing democracy and extracting resources at the expense of its people

There, that is more accurate I think.

[–] IronBird@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

what every empire throughout history has done

This is what they always have done after WW2

It is like we're back in the 1950s.

[–] lechekaflan@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

The new Iraq.

[–] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

[–] someguy3@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

[–] droopy4096@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 week ago

rerun of Chile

[–] speckofrust@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 week ago

Soooooooo, the same thing the US has done all over the planet for decades. Still shitty after all these years.
