Rules:

  1. The mods are fallible; if you've been banned or had a post/comment removed, please appeal.
  2. Off-topic posts will be removed. If you don't know what "Leopards ate my Face" is, try reading this post.
  3. If the reason your post meets Rule 1 isn't in the source, you must add a source in the post body (not the comments) to explain this. If the reason is in the source but is tedious to find (e.g. in a lengthy video), you must add an explanation for where it is.
  4. Posts should use high-quality sources (for a rough idea, check out this list), and posts should retain the title (if one exists) from works like news articles, videos, etc. You may (but need not) edit your post if the source changes the title. (If you're only using an excerpt from an article that's otherwise not about LAMF, you can use the quote in the title.) Other types of posts should have a title which accurately, relatively neutrally describes their contents.
  5. For accessibility reasons, an image of text must either have alt text or a transcription in the post body.
  6. Reposts within 1 year or the Top 100 of all time are subject to removal. Within moderator discretion, this doesn't just include reposts of the exact same media but also includes e.g. a secondary source telling basically the exact same story as another that was already posted.
  7. This is not exclusively a US politics community. You're encouraged to post stories about anyone from any place in the world at any point in history as long as you meet the other rules.

It's almost like trans people were a literal non-issue until conservatives made it their issue. It's the Streisand Effect to the max. Just let trans people live their damn lives

[–] wirebeads@lemmy.ca 118 points 5 days ago (5 children)

Transgender is “wrong” and “immoral” yet all these republicans are crooks, fraudster, adulterers, hidden closeted gays, and support and back the worlds largest pedophile on the planet with the nuclear codes.

But yeah, letting a man grow boobs is the problem here.

[–] eestileib@sh.itjust.works 74 points 5 days ago (3 children)

Men should be allowed to grow boobs if they want.

But the point of being a trans woman is that you're not a man.

[–] Today@lemmy.world 38 points 5 days ago

None of that matters to a kid. To them it's just a person being a person, wearing person clothes, and doing person things.

[–] deadbeef79000@lemmy.nz 12 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I read it charitably as someone born with a male body wanting grow boobs...

But sometimes a pithier statement, though technically less correct, does more work.

[–] eestileib@sh.itjust.works 4 points 4 days ago

I think there should be more mental space carved out for men with boobs, I dated a big dude with a sumo type body and the contrast between the muscly arms and legs and the soft moobs, mmmmm

I can excuse wanting to fuck children...but I draw the line at giving them puberty blockers. /s

[–] moondoggie@lemmy.world 9 points 5 days ago

Don’t forget that Republicans like Rafael Cruz don’t have to use the name on their birth certificate, or that most Republican politicians have had gender affirming care like hair plugs and testosterone.

Because when Republicans are "crooks" they are hurting the right people. So it makes it okay.

Conservatism has always been about oppression. It's not about small government or even protecting the kids.

It's oppression.

[–] omghi@thelemmy.club 3 points 4 days ago (1 children)

yeah no fuck you. transgender rights are not about "men growing boobs."

This reminds me of the Biden Administration, who was trying desperately to control immigration, and declaring that they did NOT support open borders, while the entire time, MAGAs were screaming "BIDEN HAS OPEN BORDERS! THEY'RE LETTING EVERYBODY IN!" every chance they got.

If people below our southern borders got the idea that they were welcome to come to America, it wasn't the Biden Administration that invited them, it was MAGA. Nobody was sending the message that undocumented immigrants were welcome in America more strongly than MAGA.

The other day, elementary age kids received pamphlets in the mail explaining all about being trans, thinking it would turn people against the trans community. It probably will, but it also taught a lot of kids how to hide being trans from your conservative parents, and that pamphlet was almost certainly a MAGA October Campaign Dirty Trick. Now we also know that it was almost certainly conceived, created, and paid for by Elon Musk. Of course it is, it smells just like him.

[–] TootTootComingThru@lemmy.world 12 points 4 days ago

Just goes to show whoever's screaming the loudest the most wins with the dumbest people. Which is why more politicians need to realize that they need to constantly and aggressively keep repeating their messages and any and every win they have. Like Mamdani has been in New York.

When much of one's political ideology is based off of manufactured outrage over the mere existence of a people group making up .01% of the population, they deserve all this stupid kind of bullshit that follows.

[–] antianarchist@sopuli.xyz 73 points 4 days ago (5 children)

Imagine being afraid of talking with your kids about that topic. What a bitch.

[–] deadbeef79000@lemmy.nz 25 points 4 days ago

Why talk when you can beat the gay out of them preemptively?

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 5 points 4 days ago (2 children)

If you never mention it to them, raise them in the church, home school them, make sure they marry some other homeschooler, keep them working in the family grift, you can raise them so they never hear about things like Trans and Gay and Liberal and Socialist, and they'll create a better Christian America in the future.

What you feared under communism has come true under capitalism.

[–] Jax@sh.itjust.works 20 points 4 days ago

It irritates me especially when I don't want to explain what they're talking about to my children.

Crazy, maybe if we taught about this stuff in school then it wouldn't be so fucking confusing.

Oh, right.. Texas.

That poor Leopard is going to die of over consumption.

Faceabeetus

So tantalizingly close lmaooool

[–] Star@lemmy.blahaj.zone 10 points 4 days ago

Wow what a fucking asshole

Can't have your kids learning about counterculture on the off chance they self-actualize instead of becoming your legacy.

[–] Feathercrown@lemmy.world 31 points 5 days ago

Correct-- If republicans stopped stripping them of their rights and loudly demanding to see the genitals of every highschooler, there would be basically no problems. It's called manufactured outrage, and it's how They(tm) control the masses.

[–] PetDinosaurs@lemmy.world 12 points 4 days ago (1 children)

It's almost like we should keep government out of our lives unless there is a good reason.

What I thought was a conservative value when I was growing up.

[–] PlantDadManGuy@lemmy.world 5 points 4 days ago

Which is why our current "conservative" party is really more closely described as the neoliberal Christo-fascist authoritarian party who all eagerly voted for "I'm going to be a dictator on day one!"

[–] JoMiran@lemmy.ml 39 points 5 days ago
[–] General_Shenanigans@lemmy.world 11 points 4 days ago

That’s how wedge issues work. Take an issue that most people didn’t have opinions on one way or another and beat opinions into their heads until they forget how it used to be something people just let live. When a party can’t sway people on bigger issues, they create some new ones. Then you end up with people whose whole ticket is filled depending on how a candidate feels about this ONE issue.

Litterally why I started to pay for Youtube Premium last election cycle. "Daddy why does want to kill babies?"

Started playing music over bluetoon in the car to avoid the same ads on the radio.

[–] otacon239@lemmy.world 36 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (3 children)

It took lots of effort to get rid of them, but I see almost no ads anymore. Not on the internet, not YouTube on my phone or in my TV shows or when I’m listening to music. I’m practically allergic to them. Now when I catch an ad that made it past me, it gets a physical reaction from me from just how FUCKING LOUD everything is all the time. And not just volume, but audio compression, colors, camera angles, costumes, set pieces, all of it. It’s a goddamn assault. They all just want their little piece of your time.

Obligatory Bansky quotePeople are taking the piss out of you everyday. They butt into your life, take a cheap shot at you and then disappear. They leer at you from tall buildings and make you feel small. They make flippant comments from buses that imply you’re not sexy enough and that all the fun is happening somewhere else. They are on TV making your girlfriend feel inadequate. They have access to the most sophisticated technology the world has ever seen and they bully you with it. They are The Advertisers and they are laughing at you. You, however, are forbidden to touch them. Trademarks, intellectual property rights and copyright law mean advertisers can say what they like wherever they like with total impunity. Fuck that. Any advert in a public space that gives you no choice whether you see it or not is yours. It’s yours to take, re-arrange and re-use. You can do whatever you like with it. Asking for permission is like asking to keep a rock someone just threw at your head. You owe the companies nothing. Less than nothing, you especially don’t owe them any courtesy. They owe you. They have re-arranged the world to put themselves in front of you. They never asked for your permission, don’t even start asking for theirs.

[–] Feathercrown@lemmy.world 13 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

More like Based-sy. Holy shit that's a good quote.

100000% this. Advertising. Can. Get. FUCKED.

Dude, you can get ad-free youtube just by using a browser with a decent adblocker. For free. Stop forking money over to Google.

[–] cantstopthesignal@sh.itjust.works 13 points 5 days ago (1 children)

It's why I allow very little screen time for my kids. I can't control the fucking ads. They are a part of the brain rot.

[–] RidgeDweller@sh.itjust.works 11 points 4 days ago

I think limiting screen time is great, tablet babies weird me out. But if/when the time comes where they need to be online more, consider helping them set up an adblocker on everything they use. Everyone hates ads including kids. They'd probably think you're awesome for it.

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 12 points 5 days ago

I switched to NewPipe as my YouTube client, to the same effect

I live in TX. The Telerico ads are a mix of how shitty ken paxton is as a person and his policies. All the Paxton ads are Trans gender is a huge problem (bc i can't stop masterbating to the porn).

Just saw another add where he has his daughter stumping for him against Trans people. Something I learned from it... the weird eye is hereditary

[–] monkeyslikebananas2@lemmy.world 23 points 5 days ago (3 children)

He’s so close to getting it. Yet so far away.

Parenting comes with so many teachable moments. This is just another one.

You've got many more tough conversations in your future. Unless you suddenly don't have a kid.

I read that and was thinking he almost " got it" but he didn't.

[–] Burn_The_Right@lemmy.today 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Conservatism should be illegal.

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

It is, from a certain point of view

[–] SnarkoPolo@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

While the leopards munch face, Red State America thank their zombie god for Dear Leader. He kept trans people out of public johns.

[–] bitjunkie@lemmy.world 5 points 4 days ago

Conservatives gradually approaching the point

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 11 points 5 days ago (1 children)

It’s almost like a progressive wrote this, in order to change minds in that sub. But I don’t think so. Which makes this super ironic.

[–] shalafi@lemmy.world 9 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I sometimes wonder if accounts like The Patriotic Blonde aren't out to subvert conservatives. It's exactly how I would do it!

It's so fucking funny that they still have that billionaire bought failed bullet dodger all gums fucker as their icon on that sub.
