She should have been recalled after she tried to meet with Trump at his inauguration. Her goal was always to be Governor of Alberta.

I'm no fan of Danielle Smith, but was this really a defeat for her? She hedged her position on separatism all the way along until eventually settling on the winning side before the vote. Meanwhile, although the separation question got all the media attention, she has won on most of the other questions she asked in the referendum.

And she still won on all the racist dogwhistle questions that were part of the referendum.

People kept making it sound like there was any question whatsoever to the outcome here.

Before question 10 was even added, I received TWO polling calls on rough versions of the questions, including question 10. Polling on Q10 specifically was consistent after it was officially added, and those results were public. Sensationalist media reporting making it sound conceivable as an outcome was completely self serving click bait.

The answer was in plain sight before it was even added.

It was a stunt. She didn't have to wait to see which was the wind was blowing, she knew how it would land before the question was even asked.

She didn't count on the depth of the stupidity of her useful idiots. She stoked a fire she expected them to applaud her for tending, regardless of the result. She's learning the lesson that if you fire up irrationality, they're loyal to the irrationality, not to you.

eventually settling on the winning side

Hardly... but I don't see why picking a side on anything in the referendum mattered. The referendum was to see what Albertans wanted and they told her.

Albertans said "yes" to her on 7 of the 10 questions she asked them.

25% is way higher than I expected though. And she voted to stay right? Wasn't this whole thing her doing? I'm so confused. Anyway, it doesn't make me happy that she might get kicked out because thay just means they'll find someone more effective... Fuck these people so hard.

She should resign. Why was a Provincial Canadian leader meeting with a Federal american leader anyways? That in itself should be enough to cause her to resign, if she had any shame that is. Shame is a rare commodity nowadays.

Get bent, Danielle! I can’t wait for these separatist fucks to form their own party and rid Alberta of UCP once and for all.

Isn't her name Marlaina? She rejects the notion of Preferred Names and I heard that was her birth name.

UCP is just rebranded Wild Rose. These right wingers are like cockroaches, they can never be fully killed off.

aaaahahahahahha, there's no way alberta doesn't continue voting in conservative shits.

Like the PQ got fucked in their separatist attempt decades ago. They still in power, still talking separation, and still telling Canada to get fucked every chance they get. And the people keep electing them.

It'll be the same in Alberta. Maybe we'll see a federal party that's a provincial voting block, similar to the PQ, spring up in the west in the semi near future.

You mean like the reform party but more spicy?

History tends to repeat, so why not.

Cons don't resign after they fuck up anymore.

[–] Sunshine@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 days ago

Because we don’t apply our perfectionism on them sadly.

[–] 7rokhym@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 days ago

She should have resigned for many better reasons already.

Ta-ta, cowgirl!

Aren't we supposed to hang traitors?

[–] nyan@lemmy.cafe 5 points 2 days ago

We abolished capital punishment a long time ago. Even for that.

[–] Sunshine@lemmy.ca 6 points 2 days ago

That’s playing into American hands.
