Can't they, just split and find someone else? Not all myths say new vampire is bound to who turned them.

There's also the community angle. If you're immortal, you're going to want an immortal support network pretty desperately at times

Your progenitor isn't just a partner, they're a gateway to immortal society. How long would it take to make connections that would survive a breakup? It'd be one thing if there were vampire nightclubs going on, but that's a pretty bad way to maintain secrecy

Some interesting power dynamics come into play

Turn others into your support structures

[–] theneverfox@pawb.social 1 points 15 hours ago

I see what you did there 🤣

That is probably the best option, if it is an option, and it opens some interesting implications for some vampire lore

So a new coven of young vampires is a threat to both existing power structures as well as secrecy, so there's some lore that vampires will hunt down unaffiliated vampires. Young vampires who turn many others could mean exponential population growth, and any rogue new vampire is a potential outbreak

I also like the implications of that for trope that romantic relationships are forbidden between progenitor and the progeny... It makes way more sense than hedonistic immortals have some inbuilt vampiric incest taboo

Exactly this situation makes way more sense

There's some interesting stories that could be written with this premise... It's the classic socially forbidden romance

Underground nightclubs are totally fine unless a half vampire with swords shows up, and what're the odds of that?

[–] Magnum@infosec.pub 5 points 5 days ago (1 children)

One sword? Maybe ... Multiple swords???? They would never.

[–] TheEighthDoctor@lemmy.zip 1 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Tell me about it, went to a blood club once and this guy shows up with FUCKING FLYING KNIFE BOOMERANGS

[–] Magnum@infosec.pub 1 points 4 days ago

Oh my gawd you met Batman????

[–] S_H_K@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 4 days ago

In the World of Darkness ttrpg is implied that Vampiric love lasts usually some centuries unless blood bonds and used and even sometimes then they can be broken.

Well… I’m together with “taste of my 20s” since 16 years. No regrets up to this point.

[–] valkyre09@lemmy.world 38 points 5 days ago

I’ve been with my wife since we were 16 (now 40+). We are not the same people. We’ve grown up together. Every day I’m grateful we met so young - lots of time with my best friend!

I mean... Why do you think they're all brooding malcontents?

[–] begrudgedcarfolk@sh.itjust.works 27 points 6 days ago (2 children)

I remember watching a vampire show once, and the dude was turned into a vampire later in life, while he was unhappy with his body. I would much rather get turned into a vampire in my 20s than much later in life.

[–] lauha@lemmy.world 17 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

Then again, some people are over weight and out of shape in their 20s and get things together later in life ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

[–] dubs@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 5 days ago (2 children)

In the game Oblivion and the movie Near Dark there are people who get turned to vampires as kids. They hate being stuck as kids, because they are old, and wise, but people still treat them like dumb kids.

Like the girl in interview with a vampire, yeah that would also suck ass.

[–] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 6 points 5 days ago

At least in Oblivion, they should just get cured, wait, and then get bitten again by an old friend.

As a dude that divorced the woman I married in my 20's, this sounds like hell.

People have come down hard on me for this opinion but I never even take Astarion unless I’m doing an especially evil playthrough, which I’ve only done once. I cant stand him lol

[–] kettuli@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 5 days ago

I’m still on my first playthrough and I’ve been pulling Astarion along the entire now-100-hour journey, ofc kinda sad because I’m incapable of cruellty.

[–] eestileib@sh.itjust.works 4 points 5 days ago

I'd take him over Wyll, but really those two deserve each other

[–] iuseasahibtw@ani.social 13 points 5 days ago

People think way too hard on FANTASY. It's supposed to be unrealistic and enjoyable.

[–] WeLoveCastingSpellz@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 4 days ago (2 children)

But I love my wifeee and we are 20

[–] OlPatchy2Eyes@slrpnk.net 3 points 4 days ago

In this example the vampire is not 20

[–] kettuli@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 4 days ago

Give it another 20 years. Hopefully your love flourishes.

[–] Shanmugha@lemmy.world 5 points 5 days ago

Huh? Sounds like Bella, not Astarion

[–] degen@midwest.social 3 points 5 days ago

So we're just plagiarizing Lestat for memes now, eh?
