This comment section is fucked. You don't graduate from and then work at KAIST if you're just some dumb "influencer", and you certainly don't run a 36:30 10 km if you're an inexperienced and unaccomplished runner. She was vastly smarter and better at running than any of you losers and running a half marathon, which she had already done previously, was not some kind of stupid mistake. She very much deserved to he there on merit. RIP, this is a very sad death to read about.
Running
A place for runners.
You are the one out of touch.
She improved her best over 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) to about 36½ minutes and clocked 1 hour, 22 minutes, 1 second at the New Balance Half Marathon in March
First off, this was a half marathon.
Second, she has obviously been training hard, and well to reach those times at the amateur level.
It’s terrible that this happened, and it’s shameful that you are on here trying to claim this is the natural result of running.
Holy gracious sakes...
Born on this planet in 2001... she was so young...
She tried hard...
No words express such cases...
Her parents, family, friends...
Dear... may you rest among the stars, in peace, and your work be not forgotten...
There's never a good headline that includes the word "influencer"
Remindes me of this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_intoxication Dear friends, please don’t forget to add some electrolytes when you’re about to go in to extremes.
A half marathon is not an extreme event. Many people run this distance without any water at all
Its an extreme event for the average person. Lots of folks are unaware of the danger of overhydration. Combine that with local races where people might be doing their first attempts at longer distance and this starts to become a problem, especially in hotter climates.
Every year there are people that sign up for races with no prior experience thinking "meh, I could run a half marathon". Guess who shows up with a ton of water, no food, and no electrolytes. The same folks that think they could take a bear in a fight. 🙄
I fully agree that HMs are not considered an extreme event by any standard. Many people are running this distance as part of their weekly workout schedule.
Did she, by chance, peddle any stereoids or similar on her influencer job?
I understand where you are coming from, we are all thinking the same. Do consider showing a trace of empathy sometimes however, it makes you look like less of an asshole.
