Moderator Guidelines
Moderator Guidelines
- Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
- Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
- When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
- Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
- Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
- Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
- Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
- Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
- Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
- Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
- Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
- Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
- First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
- Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
- No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
- Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
- Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.
What a good memer you are
Nah, just you wait 😭 /s
Oh look it's me except the praise/affection circuitry is broken for some reason
SAME. pretty sure it was the parental abuse on my end. praise is just how you prepare someone to feel the need to give you something in return. it’s not genuine.
First half is true, second half...
Oh no, I only wish. I short circuit and get depressed, feeling like people are lying to me and only being nice to me to get me to shut up and go away. It's something I've been working on for a while now, even accepting simple compliments without minimizing them or acting like the person who is giving the compliment doesn't know enough about me to make that judgment and therefore they're wrong. I really hate it, honestly. Because my crooked mind thinks "oh you're just being humble and realistic" when I'm actually actively tearing down positive thoughts about myself. This is a thing that is irrespective of my gender, it's just a "me" problem in general.
Used to do this (and still do on darker days), but therapy really helped me with this. My therapist asked me why I give out compliments. I and everyone I know does it to make the complemented person feel better. Doesn't matter if it's true or not. They do it because they care about you.
Hope this helps, otherwise I'm there is also the cogito app which is free and gives goot tasks to work on self esteem and you can look up meta cognitive training, I'm sure there are free resources on the internat for that aswell. Just know you're not alone <3
Goddd yes I wasn't "straight As" but still passed majority of my school subject grades and did get full marks on my uni degrees, but I had kinda just... Floated through the entire segment of my life? "Disassociated" definitely works here. It was only after I had finished education entirely, finally got medicated to solve the constant ADHD noise, that the burnout kicked in. Still going through it tbh. But it also gave way for me to properly learn to accept myself and everything I had suppressed. Started playing with my appearance more, stopped worrying about what others think (well... sort of... I'm working on it still) and ultimately am happier with myself for it. I look at past photos of me, and my ID and see how miserable I looked and know that I need to get it updated and it would look so much less... empty in the eyes.
Positive praise and such I do love - but I've found I can't properly express it outwardly in the moment? I think that's to do with past stuff and still unravelling the emotional web that I used to suppress myself, and it's roots... but we're making progress slowly :3
Literally exactly meeeeee
just found out the reason i'm still a guy is because i was shit at school. and also loud mouthed af. there are many reasons, now that i think about it
edit: i definitely was still good at dissociating. like almost ego-death levels of dissociating.
