Welcome to The Shitpost Office

Shitposts processed from 9 to 5, with occasional overtime on weekends.

Rule 1: Be Civil, Not SinisterTreat others like fellow employees, not enemies in the breakroom.

  • No harassment, dogpiling, or brigading
  • No bigotry (transphobia, racism, sexism, etc.)
  • Respect people’s time and space. We’re here to laugh, not to loathe

Rule 2: No Prohibited PostageSome packages are simply undeliverable. That means:

  • No spam or scams
  • No porn or sexually explicit content
  • No illegal content
  • NSFW content must be properly tagged

If you see anything that violates these rules, please report it so we can return it to sender. Otherwise? Have fun, be silly, and enjoy the chaos. The office runs best when everyone’s laughing.... or retching over the stench, at least.

Sometimes I listen to hip hop on terrestrial radio... it's a weird sensation.

Even the Road Runner version of Nobody Speak? https://youtu.be/fptauQqmjbs

It's like going over a speed bump too fast.

What is "clean" in music context? Non-concert?

[–] yopyop@sh.itjust.works 28 points 1 week ago (2 children)

When words like "fuck" are censored or when another version of the song has been recorded with more gentler words for radio broadcast.

[–] username_1@discuss.tchncs.de 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Wow. They really do that? Crazy world...

[–] scops@reddthat.com 8 points 1 week ago

The worst part was the explicit versions would have these logos on the CD case but the clean versions didn't have any logo. If you didn't know the album had explicit lyrics to begin with, you could easily buy the neutered version on accident.

That's an american thing. The first time i encountered it was when i downloaded NWA and the song fuck tha police. The word fuck was just blank. It was so jarring i had to stop the car to look for another song.

Most music streaming platforms have a "prefer clean version" setting but honestly, I would want the opposite and I'd toggle "prefer explicit version"

I feel like this about the live version.

I want to listen to the music not a stadium full of dorks going woooooop

[–] FatVegan@leminal.space 5 points 1 week ago

I never understood live albums. There are some bands that have different songs live, but even then, fuck it's annoying to listen to mid recordimg and crowds on nice headphones.

Jolene covered by the White Stripes as the live version, is arguably the best rendition of this Dolly Parton gem.

Edit: Just listen to it again. Absolute goosebumps. But I recommend the live album version from "Under Great White Northern Lights", not the official one on YouTube.

My neck and back is the worst censored

[–] gigastasio@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 week ago (2 children)

I’ll see your My Neck My Back and raise you one What It’s Like.

[–] RickyRigatoni@piefed.zip 4 points 1 week ago

Honorable mention to my plague

[–] trebach@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 week ago

At least he seemed to have fun picking out the sounds to censor words.

I see your What It's Like and raise you Hot Dog by Limp Bizkit. That one might as well be dropped from the album because a quarter of the song would be censored.

[–] GraniteM@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

And yet I find shows like The Venture Bros. funnier when they have the curse words bleeped out for broadcast than left uncensored.

[–] Someonelol@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I prefer it uncensored. Imagine if they hid Sgt Hatred's "two great big pillowy gifts from God" or blanked out Rusty's response to being demanded the hand of Osiris. The jokes wouldn't have landed the same way.

[–] GraniteM@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Yeah, but the "A Rusty Venture is when you [BLEEP] your [BLEEP] and then she [BLEEP] all over your [BLEEP] and then you [BLEEP] her [BLEEP]" scene is funnier specifically because of the ambiguity.

[–] Someonelol@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 week ago

I don't blame you if you prefer it that way. Part of that joke though was just how equally disgusting but drastically different everyone thought was a "Rusty Venture." Knowing just how different made it so funny.

If you only listened to the radio you'd never guess how foul Kenny G was.
