Worker's rights must be fought for with sweat, tears and blood. They are historically not handed down by billionaires, not once ever.

[–] Nowtayneicangetinto@thelemmy.club 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Bezos stepped away from Amazon, so it's easy for him to say this now to sound like he cares, meanwhile Elon said his workers need to be there no less than 40 hours a week in office. Which is coded speak for "you live here now"

[–] Prior_Industry@lemmy.world 4 points 22 hours ago

I thought that numbnut was pushing for 60 hour work weeks?

[–] GutterRat42@lemmy.world 20 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Fuck off! The industrial revolution should have given us 4 day workweeks decades ago. But, we have been so propagandized and called lazy if we don't work until we are dead, that people forgot that life is not about the job.

[–] funksoulkitchen@lemmy.zip 7 points 1 day ago

It's about positioning yourself for the next job. Just keep your head down and work harder, then things will be get better.

If you work hard your whole life and it still doesn't come, you will be reincarnated to someone with a better socioeconomic standing bases on a formula of how many sick days you use and the stock performance of your company.

[–] grrgyle@slrpnk.net 4 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 18 hours ago)

So start it up, Jeff. Hire more people to do less work. Don't need ai, or automation, or industrialisation, or any of that for the wealthy to share their largess. It's all technically possible right now or a hundred years ago.

[–] TrackenDaKracken@lemmy.world 10 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

It will be 25 hours. You'll get paid for 25 hours, and it will be 5 hours per day for five days. That's a "3-day work week".

But, since it's part-time legally, no healthcare, and no paid time off, because you "only work a 3-day week."

Fuck this billionaire, and all the rest. No one would miss them if they disappeared, and worse, they're leeches on our society. We'd all be much better off without them.

Stop buying crap from Amazon, what the hell are you doing!?

[–] adarza@lemmy.ca 9 points 23 hours ago

i read this as: nobody will be "allowed" a long enough work week to qualify for any benefits.

[–] minorkeys@sh.itjust.works 3 points 18 hours ago

This is a fairy tale told by a psychopath so you let him steal more.

[–] einlander@lemmy.world 52 points 1 day ago (3 children)

If ai could let people do 5 days of work in 3 days, imagine what they can do in 7!

[–] FauxLiving@lemmy.world 23 points 1 day ago

This guy capitalisms

[–] daddycool@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago (2 children)

This is exactly what will happen. If you can do your work in half the time, you'll just get more work. Simple as that.

[–] conartistpanda@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago (2 children)

But the pay will increase :D. Right?

Right?

[–] Dojan@pawb.social 2 points 1 day ago

Well no, because now a portion of what you'd be paid needs to go to the billionaires who own the datacentres and the LLMs. :)

36 hours, 12 hour shifts, no breaks, and still not a full 40 to qualify for full-time benefits.

That’s what he’d do.

He means only one person per family, on average, will be able to find a job.

And those who do, will only be able to find a part time job that schedules them 3 days at most to not risk triggering overtime or benefits thresholds.

Its a monkey's paw. That's why bezos' head looks like that and why he parts his yacht in a volcano shaped like a skull

Everyone getting paid for 3 days only is what he means

[–] Triasha@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

Mif there is ever going to be a chance of that, the bare minimum will be a wealth tax. Tax the principle wealth of billionaires. Not gains, not unrealized gains. The principle wealth.

[–] Ashrakal@lemmy.ml 5 points 1 day ago

Sweet words that hide the true meaning; they want the LLMs to be advanced enough to get rid of most of us.

Good thing they can’t, because LLMs aren’t a miraculous technology at all.

Still, it doesn’t hurt to keep these lunatics in check.

Is Bezos a child fucker with epstein that we know of?

I think we just might not know about it, but you can be sure Israel knows it.

[–] unitedwithme@lemmy.today 87 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I have always said, since the dawn of modern computing, we've been becoming more efficient and require less hours. If anything, we could work 3x 6 hour days already even without AI.

It used to take days for insurance quotes, buying a car (financing), and many other technical tasks... Now, everything is so instant. But the workload keeps increasing to keep us poors busy.

Jeff Bezos saying this, is fucking dumb, because he's just trying to sell us AI in the idea we'll work less. BS. Even if we did work less, how does that make households survive on 1 income? So fucking full of shit, all billionaires. Detached from reality.

[–] MrOtingocni@lemmy.world 26 points 1 day ago

It's almost as if 5 days is the most sustainable amount of work you can consistently squeeze out of someone and the prices will always rise to ensure it will take that amount or more to survive. 🤔

Sounds like a rigged game on a treadmill to me.

Yeah this stuff is rage bait. If workers ever get 3 day work week, they will simply get half their salary as well.

For most people you can't pay your bills with half your salary.

I'm getting tired of seeing tech make everything worse for human beings. It was not the idea from the start. This is because big tech has become as powerful as entire countries. And their culture is about max profits, of course.

All of this was predicted in many books and scifi movies but still we are unable to stop this development.

Him paying just a little bit of taxes could give Americans a 3-day workweek.

[–] uriel238@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 19 hours ago

Bezos would rather a steady supply of no-wage laborers sold to him through Jamaica, imported there from Africa. No compensation or healthcare. You are fed gruel, sleep on a floor and work untill you drop from exhaustion.

...like the sugar plantations.

...also like the concentration camps.

[–] MasutaHarada@thelemmy.club 4 points 1 day ago

Even though amazon work situation sounds like slavery with extra step, there are still lots of people willing to work there regardless because they got little choice in this dystopia , sigh.

[–] EndOfLine@lemmy.world 18 points 1 day ago

He's already given thousands of his employees 0 day work weeks in favor of AI.

Maybe he's eyeing the fast food strategy of keeping hours under the requirement to provide health insurance.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 3 points 1 day ago (2 children)

The people working may have 3 day weeks, but they'll get paid for 3 day weeks, and 50% of the population will have 0 day weeks because they'll be unemployed.

He's basically saying that we won't have a need for most full-time positions in the future. Just someone to replace the ink/toner, lubricate a few moving parts, update some software, replace some worn parts, etc.

[–] MBech@feddit.dk 2 points 1 day ago

Which I'll give him, sounds awesome, just not with a bunch of rich cunts at the helm. It would be great if working was a choice, something you did because you find joy in doing it, like art, or masturbation. That will never happen as long as there's an owning class who stand to gain as much as a penny from exploitation of the people.

The late-stage capitalist system is structurally incompatible with advanced AI. If you trade your time/labor for money, and are now required to compete against advanced automated systems, you will always lose.

"could allow" yea... 😂 Who "could allow" exactly?

[–] Flower@sh.itjust.works 9 points 1 day ago

So now you can easily take on 4 jobs to make rent

Bezos is right. 100%.

We could have that with AI. But oligarch trash like him will fight tooth and nail to prevent it from happening.

[–] ourselves@slrpnk.net 1 points 19 hours ago

We could have three day work weeks without AI

[–] anon_8675309@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

Sure it could. But people like Bezos won’t allow it.

[–] HumanOnEarth@lemmy.ca 20 points 1 day ago (5 children)

That's a really effective way of putting it honestly

Funny..a billionaire says...
These people don't need to say anything, so IF they do, I get suspicious. Just to save time I assume they are lying to try to manipulate the general public.

[–] CoffeeSoldier@sh.itjust.works 12 points 1 day ago

Bullshit. Capitalist rat-race culture will never normalize this. You'll just end up managing 33 different AIs for 16h a day and barely paying rent and you know it.

[–] Dojan@pawb.social 2 points 1 day ago

Is that actually Bezos, or a wax figure of him?

[–] ToxicWaste@lemmy.cafe 3 points 1 day ago

i mean, that would be the appropriate use for any tech: reduce workload, better invome, more free time.

i just have an inkling, that people like bezos would not be in favour of paying their employees the same or more for less work hours...
