Comic Strips is a community for those who love comic stories.

Rules
  1. πŸ˜‡ Be Nice!

    • Treat others with respect and dignity. Friendly banter is okay, as long as it is mutual; keyword: friendly.
  2. 🏘️ Community Standards

    • Comics should be a full story, from start to finish, in one post.
    • Posts should be safe and enjoyable by the majority of community members, both here on lemmy.world and other instances.
    • Any comic that would qualify as raunchy, lewd, or otherwise draw unwanted attention by nosy coworkers, spouses, or family members should be tagged as NSFW.
    • Moderators have final say on what and what does not qualify as appropriate. Use common sense, and if need be, err on the side of caution.
  3. 🧬 Keep it Real

    • Comics should be made and posted by real human beans, not by automated means like bots or AI. This is not the community for that sort of thing.
  4. πŸ“½οΈ Credit Where Credit is Due

    • Comics should include the original attribution to the artist(s) involved, and be unmodified. Bonus points if you include a link back to their website. When in doubt, use a reverse image search to try to find the original version. Repeat offenders will have their posts removed, be temporarily banned from posting, or if all else fails, be permanently banned from posting.
    • Attributions include, but are not limited to, watermarks, links, or other text or imagery that artists add to their comics to use for identification purposes. If you find a comic without any such markings, it would be a good idea to see if you can find an original version. If one cannot be found, say so and ask the community for help!
  5. πŸ“‹ Post Formatting

    • Post an image, gallery, or link to a specific comic hosted on another site; e.g., the author's website.
    • Meta posts about the community should be tagged with [Meta] either at the beginning or the end of the post title.
    • When linking to a comic hosted on another site, ensure the link is to the comic itself and not just to the website; e.g.,
      βœ… Correct: https://xkcd.com/386/
      ❌ Incorrect: https://xkcd.com/
  6. πŸ“¬ Post Frequency/SPAM

    • Each user (regardless of instance) may post up to five (5 πŸ–) comics a day. This can be any combination of personal comics you have written yourself, or other author's comics. Any comics exceeding five (5 πŸ–) will be removed.
  7. πŸ΄β€β˜ οΈ Internationalization (i18n)

    • Non-English posts are welcome. Please tag the post title with the original language, and include an English translation in the body of the post; e.g.,
      SΓ, por favor [Spanish/EspaΓ±ol]
  8. 🍿 Moderation

    • We are human, just like most everybody else on Lemmy. If you feel a moderation decision was made in error, you are welcome to reach out to anybody on the moderation team for clarification. Keep in mind that moderation decisions may be final.
    • When reporting posts and/or comments, quote which rule is being broken, and why you feel it broke the rules.
Banned Artists

The following artists are banned from the community.

  1. Jago
  2. Stonetoss
  3. GPrime85

It should be noted that when you make reports, it is your responsibility to provide rational reasoning why something should be removed. Saying it simply breaks community rules is not always good enough.

Web Accessibility

Note: This is not a rule, but a helpful suggestion.

When posting images, you should strive to add alt-text for screen readers to use to describe the image you're posting:

Another helpful thing to do is to provide a transcription of the text in your images, as well as brief descriptions of what's going on. (example)

I'll say one thing... These strips are not getting any less racy with time.

The funny thing is that I'm skipping a lot because otherwise by pure chance I'd be posting a dozen racy ones in a row. The artist clearly liked to do fan-service.

Being a sexual being is a revolutionary act.

Now those are some juicy ~~melons~~ ~~peaches~~ apricots!

[–] rob_t_firefly@lemmy.world 7 points 3 hours ago

I'm beginning to wonder if PΓ‘l Pusztai was... you know... okay.

[–] Console_Modder@sh.itjust.works 49 points 6 hours ago (4 children)

I went to college with someone who would eat an orange in the shower every morning for the same reason

[–] OhShitSon@lemmy.zip 7 points 3 hours ago

Shower oranges are the bomb, you can go completely ham on that thang without having to worry about the mess, it's great!

[–] Bytemeister@lemmy.world 10 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Don't knock it until you try it!

[–] tetris11@feddit.uk 4 points 2 hours ago

I've tried it. It's okay

[–] cattywampas@lemmy.world 23 points 5 hours ago

Probably smelled pretty good too.

[–] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world 22 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

This is the one only fans I would pay for.

[–] OwOarchist@pawb.social 7 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Somebody's a big fan of apricots!

[–] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world 6 points 5 hours ago

Just thoroughly enjoy Jucika's peaches.

I'm guessing she'd rather be naked to eat and just get messy from all the fruit juices without messing up her clothes?

[–] Maroon@lemmy.world 16 points 5 hours ago

If I were an apricot farmer, this would be my advertisement.

"So juicy, you'd want to bathe in it!"

[–] nocturne@slrpnk.net 47 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

Like me, Jucika is messy when it comes to eating ripe fruit. She requests a privacy screen from the waiter so that she can eat in the nude and not get her clothing dirty.

Oh lol i thought she was in the shower in the last one for some reason

[–] brsrklf@jlai.lu 23 points 6 hours ago (2 children)

I think those are very juicy apricots, so she's asking for screens, so she can... have an apricot shower in the middle of the restaurant?

Yeah, that one seems like a stretch.

[–] username_1@discuss.tchncs.de 20 points 6 hours ago* (last edited 6 hours ago) (5 children)

I suppose it is slightly different: they are juicy indeed and she doesn't want to soil her clothes with sticky sugary juice.

[–] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world 10 points 5 hours ago* (last edited 5 hours ago)

And also eating ripe peaches is extremely erotic.

Lets not do Jucika a disservice and inject the modern, much more regressive and repressive sexual identities that seems to have cropped up, especially among the nominal left. Jucika was explicitly a sex positivist and the eroticism is the message as much as it is about not getting your clothes messy.

It would be a huge disservice to Jucika to inject the wack-a-doodle anti-sexualism some of those on the nominal left have adopted into their politics. Its certainly not a politics I subscribe to: I'm with Jucika; when eating a peach its important to both do it in an incredibly erotic way, and to not get our clothes messy.

Jucika's best read as entries of a large and comprehensive encyclopedia of paraphilias.

It's poor man's kink discovery through the weekly magazine

Humiliation seems a popular one.

Are you in northern or western Europe? As I discovered when I moved to the UK, it's virtually impossible to get stone fruit that doesn't require a hammer and chisel, and are crunchy like apples. 😬

Elsewhere in the world, they're juicy, soft and prone to spraying everywhere. Which I think is the intended audience of this strip.

Millions of peaches. Peaches for me.

[–] AFKBRBChocolate@lemmy.ca 12 points 5 hours ago (2 children)

Aren't those more likely to be peaches? Where I am, apricots are just larger than a golf ball.

[–] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world 15 points 5 hours ago (4 children)

Apricots versus peaches are a nominal distinction that doesn't exist in all cultures or languages.

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 1 hour ago) (1 children)

Should be translated into English as peach, then.

[–] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

Well no, not necessarily. Languages don't necessary map 1:1, and conceptions change over time. What one generation calls a peach, and what a previous generation calls a peach, they might differ.

Just like a peach, you may have to accept a little fuzz.

[–] Skullgrid@lemmy.world 2 points 1 hour ago

there is sufficient context for that kind of head gymnastics. By looking at the picture, we can clearly see it's peaches.

Less extreme in terms of shape but not taste, is the Spanish arΓ‘ndano, meaning blueberry OR cranberry.

It's OK because Spanish makes up for it by having European and American names for all varieties of critters.

[–] AFKBRBChocolate@lemmy.ca 11 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Oh, interesting, I had no idea. They're so different. I used to have both a peach tree and an apricot tree - they don't even taste all that similar.

[–] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world 9 points 5 hours ago* (last edited 5 hours ago) (3 children)

No the don't, but nectarines can also get lumped in there, and I think nectarines are better than either. The fruits all find their roots in China in prehistory, so depending on where when they made it to a region and the particulars of the linguistic groups of the time. Its like how limes and lemons weren't always distinguished in all cultures.

[–] Atelopus-zeteki@fedia.io 5 points 4 hours ago

Por que no los Tres

[–] radix@lemmy.world 5 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

"Apple" has dozens of varieties that don't taste all that similar either.

[–] bss03@infosec.pub 2 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

Yeah, like "Apples of earth" ("Pomme de Terre"). /s

[–] scutiger@lemmy.world 2 points 3 hours ago

Or road apples

[–] nocturne@slrpnk.net 2 points 4 hours ago

I think nectarines are better than either.

I agree, and disagree. Nectarines are the best of the three to eat by hand. But peaches, an apricots are better cooked.

[–] Skullgrid@lemmy.world 5 points 5 hours ago* (last edited 5 hours ago)

well, it exists in english

[–] SculptusPoe@lemmy.world 6 points 5 hours ago* (last edited 5 hours ago)

I looked up β€œJulika es az oszibarack”. It means β€œJulika and the peach.”

[–] bitjunkie@lemmy.world 6 points 5 hours ago
[–] BoosBeau@lemmy.world 7 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

What is that hat made of?!

[–] fonix232@fedia.io 10 points 5 hours ago (3 children)

Most likely straw, given the time the comic was drawn.

Not the crude straw hats you'd see on scarecrows mind you, but craftsman bleached straw finely cut and assembled.

As for the candle looking things - in the 50s to 70s in Hungary, fake candles with incandescent bulbs were very trending. My grandma had a crystal chandelier that had such sticks with special mini bulbs you could set to flicker like actual candles. That's why the hat isn't burning. An upscale restaurant in the 60s-70s would've likely had such a setup.

[–] kalpol@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 hour ago

These were around into the 90s. Steak and Ale, man, those flickering bulbs with the incandescent screens. How they worked was kinda cool.

[–] dual_sport_dork@lemmy.world 2 points 4 hours ago

These still exist and they're everywhere. To the extent that in the US the smaller light bulb screw base is literally called the "candelabra" base. I have such a chandelier in my house right now (a very cheap one, probably from the 1980s) only minus the tacky flicker bulbs.
