It plays to the base. It distracts the base from its actual problems. It attempts to scare those opposed. If people really protest and riot, martial law and no elections.

[–] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 2 points 5 days ago

Because he's a sadist and thinks it makes him look strong to murder people.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 70 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Why now? Because conservatives love to go backwards.

https://www.lawyerherald.com/articles/63079/20250611/death-row-inmate-facing-firing-squad-claims-riflemen-last-execution-missing-purpose-cause.htm

Did a South Carolina firing squad deliberately try to miss a man's heart during an execution last month to prolong his death?

That's what attorneys for Stephen Stanko, the next prisoner slated to die, contend.

I mean, ugh.

We need to stop calling these fuckers conservatives. Conservative implies that you are maintaining the status quo. These bastards are straight-up regressives.

[–] Zombiepirate@lemmy.world 18 points 1 week ago

The status quo is the past.

Reactionary is a better name for the movement though; they want to simp for their masters: the regressive regime where they can play at "owning the left" while bolstering the rent-seeking owner class.

[–] AHemlocksLie@lemmy.zip 13 points 1 week ago

The only genuine stance conservatives have is that society should be hierarchical. It's financially driven by wealthy who want to be essentially an aristocratic class, and since that's a bitch of a sell, they focus on who's lower than the average person instead of who's higher, but the legislative result is always the same, more for the capitalist class. Everything else is window dressing, distractions, and whatever concessions they feel obligated to make.

Conservative implies that you are maintaining the status quo.

No, Conservatism protects the unaccountable privilege of the upper class. That's the only status quo they maintain. They'll tear down anything else, no matter how long it's existed. And it has been that way since the term "conservative" was coined. It was a reaction against Enlightenment ideas that rule of law should apply to everyone, and that those holding positions of power should be appointed by merit and held accountable to the people. It has always favored sinecures, nepotism, royally granted monopolies, bribery and obfuscated ownership.

The great British politician Tony Benn distilled five questions that should be asked of those in power in order to maintain a functioning democracy:

  • What power have you got?
  • Where did you get it from?
  • In whose interest do you exercise it?
  • To whom are you accountable?
  • How can we get rid of you?

You will notice that conservatives will always react aggressively when asked any of these questions.

Conservatism has always been shit like this. The idea that it just means "maintaining the status quo" is a lie they tell to whitewash it.

[–] impairedimperator@lemmy.zip 6 points 1 week ago

Maintaining what status quo?

Don't worry! History has an answer! It's the divine right of kings!

[–] Zedstrian@sopuli.xyz 33 points 1 week ago (1 children)

"This savage terrorist deserves the harshest lawful punishment for his 2009 mass shooting at Fort Hood," Hegseth told several media outlets, including The Hill, at the time. "The victims and survivors deserve justice without delays."

Because the prisoner is Muslim. They don't refer to white supremacist mass shooters as 'savage terrorists'.

[–] rumimevlevi@sh.itjust.works 15 points 1 week ago

The savages are people like Hefseth

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 31 points 1 week ago

Why now? Just some necessary preparations for Project 2025.

[–] Zak@lemmy.world 30 points 1 week ago (4 children)

I am opposed to the death penalty, but as far as methods go, firing squad seems more honest than lethal injection. It looks like killing rather than dressing it up like a medical procedure.

[–] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 1 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Hitting them on the head with a sledgehammer is honest as well. That doesn't make it humane.

[–] Zak@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago

Killing people in cold blood is not humane no matter how you do it.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 14 points 1 week ago

Yeah, but sick people looooove it. I'm not sure that's great.

[–] I_Jedi@lemmy.today 7 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (2 children)

My preference for a death penalty method is a point blank shotgun blast to the head. Quick and easy.

[–] Malica@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 week ago

Mine is nitrous and I don't understand why we don't use it

[–] Tower@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 week ago

There's a helmet for that!

[–] kestrel7_7@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I’m against the death penalty, but obviously if it’s going to happen, the guillotine is the only acceptable method. Everything else is either unreliable, cruel, or both.

[–] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The guillotine looks less humane when we consider those executed looking around, blinking, and responding to external stimuli for a minute afterward.

[–] Nollij@sopuli.xyz 2 points 1 week ago

None of that has ever passed any sort of testing. Even the longest theoretical is under 10 seconds, but most evidence points to the sudden loss of blood pressure leading to instant loss of consciousness, before it even hits the basket.

Of course, injection was also promised to be a merciful approach, so who knows.

[–] Pratai@piefed.ca 21 points 1 week ago

Why? Because he’s a child-fucking pedophile and he wants you to forget it.

[–] rumimevlevi@sh.itjust.works 18 points 1 week ago (2 children)

They should execute trump and every other war criminal in the usa

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 19 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (3 children)

I'd much rather throw him in prison.

And give him livestreams of things like his ballroom being ripped down, the pool being properly restored, all those tacky gold gewgaws that he glued to the walls of the WH scraped off, Biden's picture restored instead of that bullshit about an "autopen" and the most unflattering picture of donnie put up there with a description of how he's a rapist, a pedophile, a traitor and a war criminal, the Rose Garden restored, Obama's picture put on the passports, currency with Hillary's picture on it, the Gulf of Mexico and Lake Ontario being restored on all maps, and on and on. Maybe fake feeds in some cases, others not. Concoct fake feeds about how Obama got 5 more Nobel Peace Prizes....

And he gets no other entertainment, and definitely no Internet access. No cameras on him, either.

[–] ReptilianCleric@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 week ago

I don't know about that last part. The idea of his torture finally getting him the views he craves feels somehow poetic.

[–] AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I agree with everything except the money and passport thing. No living person is supposed to be on our money. Also partisan passports seem tacky.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Yes. But I'd be willing to make an exception just in this case. Would not have to be on there very long.

Also, he could just be given fake news feeds about those situations.

Distraction from the trump-epstein files, and alllll the treason.

[–] darthsundhaft@piefed.social 15 points 1 week ago (2 children)

It's a message. Follow his orders or "get shot". His hold on all of us right now is all bent on us being afraid enough to not do anything to him and his cult. That may change here very shortly thanks to the resistance in Spain, France, and Brazil.

Soon he will taste his own medicine.

[–] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 1 points 5 days ago

I'm surprised he's not trying to introduce the garotte.

[–] Hayduke@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)
[–] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 week ago

I'd say the Gaddafi approach is closer to what he deserves.

[–] FaceDeer@fedia.io 9 points 1 week ago

Oh, I know why. It makes his tiny little mushroom hard thinking about being responsible for shooting someone.

[–] Eldritch@piefed.world 9 points 1 week ago (1 children)

They want to get their practice in before targeting the public.

[–] zd9@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

They're going to have to get a lot of practice for what they're intending in the future.

[–] tacoplease@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago

Lil Petey Low-Testosterone boy wants to play tough man.

Canned hunt cruelty for these gangsters that would “shoot them themselves” because they’re such badasses.

[–] 4grams@awful.systems 6 points 1 week ago

Why now? Because he enjoys inflicting pain, he gets off on killing people. It ain’t hard.

Because if he doesn't order people around every few days then the empty feeling where his heart should be gets too strong.

[–] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 week ago

They're gonna switch to a slaughterhouse bolt-gun soon. Save that 20c .

[–] nosuchanon@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

There’s a shortage of the precursor chemicals used to make the lethal injections. I want to say our main source actually comes from Canada.

Also there is a shortage of the proper medical staff that know how to administer a lethal Injection.

[–] SnarkoPolo@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Very soon, the regime will need to execute a lot of people. Firing squad is a lot faster.

[–] vivalapivo@lemmy.today 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Mikal Mahdi was shot in lungs and he was suffering from excruciating pain while dying simply because he killed a police officer.
