"We did it, Patrick! We made a technological breakthrough!"

A place for all those who loathe AI to discuss things, post articles, and ridicule the AI hype. Proud supporter of working people. And proud booer of SXSW 2024.

AI, in this case, refers to LLMs, GPT technology, and anything listed as "AI" meant to increase market valuations.

From one to the other in less than a year. Slippery slope much?

"We also need to read the code. My golden rule for production-quality AI-assisted programming is that I won’t commit any code to my repository if I couldn’t explain exactly what it does to somebody else."

One year later:

"But I’m not reviewing that code. And now I’ve got that feeling of guilt: if I haven’t reviewed the code, is it really responsible for me to use this in production?"

Techbros know people are lazy, so if their slopspawn machines work good enough, often enough, people will forgive the times it flies off the fucking rails and breaks everything. They know people will roll the dice and think "That won't happen to me, this time. And, if it does, it's still worth the 'productivity gains' I've already gotten."
